Brought my 10 year old daughter to the Shapeshifter gig at @thebearclub_grrr the other day, I gave her my phone to take some videos, here’s some footage! Only review she gave me was “all jazz sounds the same” MASSIVE shout out to the bear club for being so welcoming to us, made us all feel very much at home. Also, thanks for letting Mair have a go on the piano after the gig! Very fun gig, as we all know @yaydavis and @marklockheart are the best, only a couple dates left this year, so come see us if you can!

Mark Lockheart brings his perfectly formed trio to The Bear Club this weekend. Mark is an absolute titan of contemporary British jazz, having been integral to two of the most influential bands of the last 40 years - Loose Tubes and Polar Bear. Loose Tubes were a hugely popular collective in the late 1980s that served as the launch pad for many a career, including Mark's. Time Out referred to them as "the most important band to appear on the British jazz scene." Polar Bear were a remarkable cross-genre group that were Mercury Prize-nominated in 2005, and whose album 'Held on the Tips of Fingers' was included in Jazzwise's '100 Jazz Albums That Shook The World.' 'Shapeshifter' is the name of this new(ish) project, with Mark combining with the supremely talented drummer Jay Davis, and bassist and composer in his own right, Huw V. Williams. Their album of the same name was released this year to great acclaim. 🗓️ Sat 17 Oct 🎟️ Link in bio

Mark Lockheart is one of the UK’s most distinctive and forward-thinking saxophonists and composers, who came to prominence with the pioneering big band Loose Tubes, before shaping the UK scene through projects such as Perfect Houseplants and the Mercury Prize-nominated Polar Bear. His new trio, Shapeshifter, features the special creative voices of Huw V Williams (bass) and Jay Davis (drums). Creating a unique sonic experience, the trio shifts moment to moment, gracefully and spontaneously stitching together soundscapes and grooves. 🎟️ Link in bio

We welcome Mark Lockheart, one of the stalwarts of contemporary British jazz, to The Bear Club next Saturday. Mark is one of the UK’s most distinctive and forward-thinking saxophonists and composers, who came to prominence with the pioneering big band Loose Tubes in the '80s, before going on to shape the UK scene in the '90s and beyond through projects such as Perfect Houseplants and the Mercury Prize-nominated Polar Bear. You may have caught him playing here back in April with Marvin Monueké, as part of the excellent 'On Impulse!' gig, but we think, somewhat inexplicably, this might be the first time he's played here with his own project. This is very much a trio of top-class musicians and writers, and they all share writing credits on their debut album, 'Shapeshifter', which was released this year to great acclaim. Joining Mark are Huw V. Williams on bass and Jay Davis on drums. 🗓️ Sat 17 Oct 🎟️ Link in bio
