What a joyous evening we had at the Vortex last night, thanks to all who came down, and thanks to @joegibbings for capturing these clips for us. I can't explain what an incredible honour it is to share the stage with these two boundlessly creative musicians. You'll be hearing more from this band in the not too distant future.

A little more fun from the Ronnie Scott's late show the other night with the brilliant Alex Western-King, Ivo Neame and Tom Dring.

It was a pleasure to provide some drums for this episode of Tim Harford's Cautionary Tales podcast. The brief was to improvise along with the ebb and flow of this infamous fight between Muhammad Ali and Henry Cooper, with a little highlighting of Ali's dance-like style around the ring. Thanks to Pascal Wyse, Tim, and the team for getting in touch!

Mark Lockheart is one of the UK’s most distinctive and forward-thinking saxophonists and composers, who came to prominence with the pioneering big band Loose Tubes, before shaping the UK scene through projects such as Perfect Houseplants and the Mercury Prize-nominated Polar Bear.

His new trio, Shapeshifter, features the special creative voices of Huw V Williams (bass) and Jay Davis (drums). Creating a unique sonic experience, the trio shifts moment to moment, gracefully and spontaneously stitching together soundscapes and grooves.

A little bit of solo in 7 from Tom Barford's arrangement of Inner Urge, from a very fun gig a couple weeks back.

The wonderful @tim_edgar_art working on the inner sleeve of the Shapeshifter record. I love Tim’s work and what he did with our record is really stunning! We’re also playing some lovely gigs in Oct around the UK so come and see us if you can! #ukjazz #shapeshifter #jazztrio by @yaydavis

Some Shapeshifter gigs in October!
Looking forward to hitting the road!
Sadly there are a couple that Jay can't make, but we have the mega Tim Giles stepping in for those ones.

We'd love you to come along to the gigs!
Catch you there!

New album out today! 🤗 ‘Dancing On Bentwood Chairs (Live at Love Supreme)’ 💃🪑🕺🎪

The album captures Billy Marrows Band’s set on the @newgenjazz stage at this year’s @lovesupremefest, one of the most joyful Billy Marrows Band gigs so far, from start to finish, recorded on a single stereo mic with no editing (apart from cutting down my talking after Woland Blues…) and mastered by Alex Bonney.

Available to stream and buy digitally on Bandcamp, where you can also get postcards and T-shirts featuring the artwork 🖼️

Huge thanks to:

• @lovesupremefest and @eddiemyer and @jjkendon at @newgenjazz for inviting us to play and creating such a great stage 🎡

• My band @chris_williamsmusic 🎷 @huwvwilliams 🎻 and @yaydavis 🥁 for playing so incredibly and being such generous spirited people 🔥☺️

• Everyone who came to watch us at Love Supreme or any of our other gigs on the DOBC tour 🙏🧡

• Thanks to @albonney for mastering it so beautifully 🎛️

• Thanks to my dad @timothy_.morrison for the wonderful collage artwork 👨‍🎨😺

• And finally thanks to everyone who has supported the album so far! 😚
