A project space for Asian and Asian diasporic contemporary art.
02.10–19.12.26: ‘true names’
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Born of the vision of Chinese patron and #artcollector Yan Du (@xs_y) and launched just over a year ago, @ydp_space is an independent nonprofit project space in a beautiful townhouse on Bedford Square in Bloomsbury.

Now a key platform for artists from Asia and its diaspora in #London, it hosts exhibitions alongside a rich public program of talks and performances that extends its mission beyond each project, fostering broader resonance and opportunities for collaboration with institutions across the city’s diverse cultural landscape.

Observer caught up with Du to discuss the cultural ecosystem she has created, which spans acquisition, research and curatorial support. // Read more by @elisartgal at the link in our bio.

🪔❤️‍🔥🙏 The Spinal Incense Clock series is currently on view in True Names at YDP, London. @ydp_space
To everyone who helped bring these works into the world, thank you.

To my dear friend and curator Fuca Yuan, for inviting me on this expedition in search of true names. You’ve made me braver, without making me harder. @heichiyuanr

To my guardian angel, YDP curator Jun Shen, for caring so thoughtfully for everything seen and unseen, before and after the opening. @junjunbackwards

To Yan Du, for believing in the healing power of art in these turbulent times, and for dedicating herself to it. @xs_y

None of this would have been possible without the warm and professional YDP team, the art handlers, and the lighting designers. You gave these clocks their first home. @billytanng @_mark.healy_ @erinmoving @cindaymorning @nanaka_kishi @carmenncf @claric3blanche and Natalie Attar

To the foundry owners and craftspeople I worked with, for your patience and encouragement throughout the past seasons, and to all the animals and their little ones who kept us company.

To my incense teacher Wen Lu, for her deep research into the history of incense in Buddhist practice, and for sharing her knowledge so generously.

And to the White Space team, for always being there. @whitespacebeijing

You all helped kindle the fire, and keep it burning — in the works and in me. 🔥

YDP @ydp_space, it was an amazing month—a month of discoveries unlike anything else. This was our first residency as a collective, and the very first one overall for Sofia and Rusudan.

Dear team and Erin @erinmoving, thank you for the opportunity you created for us—like a nest from which we weren’t afraid to fly out, even so far from home. Thank you for your support, which allowed us to immerse ourselves in the context of London—its diverse communities, wonderful people, and places—with joy and courage.

This residency was a huge experience for us: new meetings, new experiments, dozens of new ideas. We want to express our deep gratitude to the team for the close-knit and coordinated work you did for us, ensuring every part of the display was perfect, exactly as envisioned, and for the warm and intimate atmosphere you gave us.

We managed to refresh ourselves, recharge, and return to something important—for ourselves and for the collective. We took the Ayol Sevgi @ayol.sevgi project to the next level, gaining the opportunity to launch a new series of stories, this time in video format—something new for the project.

We’re leaving with many new memories, ideas, and opportunities: new connections, new collaborations with artists and cultural practitioners from different backgrounds, and so much inspiration that we hope to carry forward into our future work.
Thank you, YDP🫶🏾
