POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Invoking ekphrasis, the poetic practice of responding to visual art, Transmission brings together four poets and four visual artists to create nine new works in response to each other.

The project inspired by the “telephone” game and the surrealist activity exquisite corpse. The first creative started the “transmission” chain, in our case by writing a poem. A visual artist responded to that work, sharing their painting, but not the poem which inspired it, with the next writer, and so on, closing with the poet who began the cycle.

As meaning is passed, altered, and reimagined through and between mediums, the project reveals how interpretation is shaped through the act of translation. A collection of reflections, rather than a cohesive body of work, the exhibition itself is the record of an experiment in collective authorship. Accepting creative drift and the generative possibilities of constraint, the participating creatives give us their truth, rather than a tidy narrative that belies the messiness of striving to communicate.

We look forward to sharing this work and seeing you at the opening. Nov 7, 5-8pm with artist talk at 6

Much gratitude to @satellite__space for making space and time to share the project.

This Friday, October 9, at 7 p.m., come out to the dreamiest spot for poetry around 🫴🏾 🌒
I can't wait to read poems with @wmscottwms (we met at one of my fav things: a 🍷 tasting) and @jensperrysteinorth, who's celebrating her latest book, BOYS BEHIND GLASS. I'll be reading from ENCOUNTERS FOR THE LIVING AND THE DEAD and will also share a few new poems. We'll have books. There'll be wine. And the @wildharebookshop Hatchery must be experienced in person, so I think you should come see this gorgeous velvet-draped space for yourself 😌✨.
