Sunset or sunrise? What's your favorite?

At sunset and well before sunset, we were all alone at this wonderful location. At sunrise, it was quite busy this year. The one taken at sunset is my favorite, simply because it carries more precious memories.

Two posts ago, I mentioned that taking photos wasn't the primary goal of our last trip. Experiences together and creating memories were. I wrote "more about that later," and what I was referring to is how, ever since I started sharing my work, people have tried to impose their self-invented rules on me.

Years ago, many thought using Photoshop was "not allowed." I used Photoshop a lot, so plenty of people tried to tell me I shouldn't. Over time, people got used to it, and for a long while, those comments stopped. But lately, it feels like going back in time. I’ve noticed a resurgence of people telling me what I can or cannot shoot. I shouldn't do cityscapes, I shouldn't shoot in the US, mushroom photos aren't good, I can't shoot mountains, and so on.

Honestly, I don't take photography that seriously. That might be hard to believe, but as I said: the experience, the memories, and just having fun are what truly matter. In the end, photography and being in nature are things I do to relax. In fact, I probably only got good at photography because there was a period in my life where I needed it a lot to relieve stress.

So... I’m not going to spend more words on this, except for this: if I post photos that you think I shouldn't take or share, feel free to unfollow me. There is no point in trying to change me or make me fit into self-imposed rules, because I won't. Since a creative outlet is, first and foremost, a personal journey.

Panaoramas don't really work on Instagram or a small screen like a phone. But still I share it... Being here again was like going back in time when in 2021 we had similar conditions at this place. Cropped using PixelCrop.

Same place, same composition, different times. @yendolphotography and I were in the Dolomites again, enjoying those wonderful mountains with our (step)daughter @yennngu. The first photo is from this year. These others are from other years.

And although this trip wasn't about photography, of course I did bring my camera to capture sunset and sunrise. But this trip was more about enjoying cappuccino and a beer on the tops of the Dolomites, taking a nap on the meadows of Seiser Alm, drinking a radler in the evenings. So this was a trip about creating memories together. And photos help me to keep those memories alive better. But the photos are not the goal. The experiences together and the memories are. More about this later...

Down South. These trees in the south of the US are something special. 😊

Like a bird in the swamps.

I have been in the swamps of Louisiana already quite some times. Swamps are to me some of the most beautiful pieces of nature on earth. The trees, the sounds, the birds, the light at sunrise illuminating the Spanish moss in the cypress trees... This time I visited again another swamp. And I tried to capture it in a different way than I did for other swamps earlier. I am quite happy with the result. The mood of this photo expresses fully what a swamp is to me. I hope you like it too.

Jungle Vibes

At first glance, this might look like a photo taken in the Netherlands. But if you look a bit better, you will notice this is quite a different forest than the ones we have in the Netherlands. This photo I took this morning in the south of the US, in Conroe, Texas. The forest here is pretty inaccessible for different reasons: it has lots of undergrowth and it's gated and has no paths, which means you cannot have a nice walk in it to shoot. I also didn't go to Conroe to shoot, but we're here for visiting family. But while here, of course I cannot let the opportunity pass to take some photos of this area. Photos we cannot take at home.

For that, I brought my drone. So I could capture the sunrise and the fog lingering around the trees from above. A wonderful morning to enjoy. And it also shows (again) that fog can also be found here. But you have to wake up early and it won't last long (see last image). The result is a photo of Conroe in way they might not know it could look like this... 😊
