A day at the lake. This photo is more special (to me) than you might think. Having more than 20 years of experience in signal and data processing of sensors, I was already playing for a longer time with the idea to apply that experience and knowledge to the processing of the output of the sensors that I like to play with during my spare time. 😊

This is a result of a project that is taking a lot of spare time (but in a fun way). This photo is a focus stack created with my very own focus stacking software. It's the first photo that I share made with that software and that's why it's special to me.

When I took this photo there was wind and the flowers in the foreground where moving quite a bit. Not that easy to stack and some other software made quite a mess of the stack. To me it's really nice to see how well the stacking actually worked with the algorithms that I implemented. It was not easy to create software that can rival the best stacking software out there. There are quite some challenges in getting good stacking results. But I like to challenge myself and it's almost additive to see that, step by step, the results were getting better and better. Searching for algorithms in literature to solve problems in the stacking, finding ways to make it fast and then seeing that all the hard work really starts paying off... that's so much fun and so rewarding.

Anyhow... I have already trouble to explain my passion of photography to people who don't share the same passion, so I can understand that many people won't understand where the fun is in creating software for focus stacking. And that's totally fine. I hope you can just enjoy the result. 😁

Solitary...

I have been shooting the solitary trees in front of the Swiss mountains with the Mavic 4 Pro. Flexibility in combination with 168 mm makes it perfect for this kind of photography.
