I will not be part of the 27 club 🎉

Today I’m 28 and I took the day off with a goal to just be here. Be in my body. Let time pass, but not on accident. And man, I really am just feeling really grateful. I have a lot of love for myself. I absolutely love my brain and my memories. I love my wife so much! I love my parents and my siblings and my friends. I am surrounded by very cool people and have had a very cool life already.

My intention for this next year is to not label my life and aspirations as “working” or “not working”. “Successful” or “unsuccessful”. It has all already worked and is working.

I wrote a few weeks ago, “Life is not about accolades or productivity, it’s about appreciating your body, paying attention to the weather and touching the earth, making things, and interacting with others. It’s also about being silly and laughing and being moved and crying.”

I’ve always been somebody who battles with time. It’s often felt fleeting, and it makes me sad. I’ve put so much pressure on myself to white knuckle grip every moment. But last night I basically told myself, Zach, I want you to know, you do care. You’re noticing! And that’s enough. I’ve been here! And I’ve tried!

Anyways. Here are some moments from this winter! Putting out my favorite Roseburg song in 1 month. Talk to you all soon.

i can’t claim to be as articulate and beautiful a writer as i used to be. frankly, it’s shocking when i can communicate anything meaningful without rambling or becoming discombobulated or just giving up halfway through because i can never seem to get the right thing out. that paired with a few rather distressing relationships where i was lead to believe my thoughts were rarely worth sharing has lead to me becoming a little rusty in the “earnestly writing and sharing my emotions” area, but i’ll try my best.

i’ve always felt a little weird and out of place anywhere i go, with anyone i talk to. i’ve always felt a bit cursed to always understand, but never be understood. i did, at least, frequently find a little reprieve in the arts, particularly music. ever since i can remember, i’ve loved it. my cd collection was my greatest treasure. songs i didn’t even understand quite yet would evoke a visceral reaction from me, a quiet kid sitting in her room wondering if anyone else had ever felt like she did. and i would get so frustrated, because i never knew how to articulate what i was feeling so i could never actually ask anyone, “hey, have you ever felt like this?” i felt so closed off and yet so volatile at the same time. i was teased for being so sensitive, but that’s what happens when there are too many complicated feelings in a body too small to hold them and far too young to put words to them at all. and then, someone did. quite a few people managed to, actually. i quickly started collecting song after song that finally took the words out of my brain and set them in front of me as something not just tangible but beautiful, as well. i’ve spent a lot of nights crying to songs that have not only made me finally feel seen, but reassured that maybe i’m not doing all of this on my own. some things and the feelings that come with them are daunting and overwhelming and seemingly world-ending, but at least i know the universe isn’t out to get me. and if it is, i appear to, at the very least, be in very good company. i can’t claim to have done my best work behind the camera with this one, but how serendipitous it was to be involved with it at all.🤍🌪️

New(ish) project alert hehe I’ve been lucky to be surrounded by really cool artists - including my dad and brother :) I got to work with them on their last albums art- working with my auntie’s art and this album we’ve been using my magpies :) neat to see them in a new light - similar, but a new iteration - anyways all that’s to say Pet Tornado is out now and you should give it a listen :) and then go listen to Everything’s Broken, Everything’s Falling Apart again :)
“I love you, I’m glad I exist” :)

End of my 28th summer. We’ve gotten about 75 lbs. of honey this year from our bees w some more to go! Now we’ve got to figure out how to keep them alive during the winter. :’) Me and all my homies have become gardeners and it kind of feels right, learning life lessons from it and all that shit. “If you just do your little bit every day, nature takes care of the rest.” Halfway to becoming the worst person you know. Anyways, we also shot a @roseburgband video for a song we have coming out soon. We are working on a full length album. Been back and forth between California seeing my family while Sierra was in Africa for a month. Lots of concerts in SLC. We were on the cover of a magazine and some kid commented and said: “Cool! Bet you’ll one day be known as the best band of the contemporary period”, so turns out that’s still on the table. Helping @riverleewilde with his new music that I’m so excited about. Putting out a new @yester_kid song in a couple weeks and almost halfway done w that album. Still super rich from my marketing job. Still searching for the meaning of all of this. Or trying to be okay with no meaning at all. Idk man!! But I love my family and my friends and the earth and music.
