Today as we celebrate workers day, at Read-A-Creste we remember our amazing volunteers and workers. The unseen faces that slither through the streets of Kaduna to engage with schools, organisations and potential sponsors. The creative hands behind our posters and videos. The voices that bring up ideas that would be exhibited on July 4th.

Thank you.

On Thursday, @_starzahra and I were pleased to stop by our friend @yeugene_ ‘s exhibition on plastic waste and recycling at @mambaahcafe; it was part of a research in collaboration with @aniebiet06, with the support of @boellabuja. It was lovely to catch up with Eugene on the sidelines and away from Kaduna, our usual context. Well done, all. Let’s keep having these important conversations.

🔎 Recognising informal waste workers' contribution in Nigeria's circular economy

We are delighted to share that our Nigeria Green Academy Fellows, Aniebiet Obot and Yakubu Eugene Shichet, convened a powerful Docu-Photo Exhibition as well as launched their research study on "Inclusive Waste Governance in Nigeria.”

The photo exhibition put a face and a story to the informal waste workers, the Mai Bola(Hausa), who recover 60-90% of recyclables in our cities. Their labour is fundamental, yet their presence in policy planning and investment remains marginalised.

This project is a call to action: to see their indispensable contribution, to strengthen their operations, and to integrate them into a just and effective waste management system.

👉 Swipe through to see their world through our lens.

And the winner is… sadly, we’ll have to keep our prize gift to ourselves but hey, watch out for our next trivia! And a little tip🤫… visit our website via link in bio to find all SEVHAGE books for your best read!

Fruit of Pain by Mabel Adinya Ade “is an important story for both women and men. For men, to have an inkling of the kind of trauma of childbirth and the hell that women pass through against sexist traditions we uphold and won’t let go of. For women, to learn how to prioritize their bodies, and not their spouses or tradition. Even though this reads like a very depressing story, the writer is bold enough to bring these issues to limelight and in the end tells a story of victory, refreshment and great beauty. She’s undoing for her gender what a sexist tradition has enforced on them for a very long time.

After reading this story, a reader will be compelled to agree that no woman would/should let her body be used to appease men’s ego, slave over tradition and bear pain anymore. Fruit of Pain is a quality advocacy tool for maternal health that speaks to issues in an entertaining and engaging style that others might have overlooked. One will see reasons why more attention should be given to maternal health which several people take for granted. This might not be unsurprising since the author is a maternal health advocate with several years of development work experience in this area too. Whatever the case, there is no doubt that this is a fine debut novel.”
