Speed is more than just how fast you can run.

From college football to pre-draft preparation to the NFL, developing game-changing speed requires training more than just straight-line sprinting.

We focus on the different qualities of speed and how they translate to performance on the field.

Acceleration: Your first 5–10 yards can make all the difference. Improving force production, projection angles, and sprint mechanics helps athletes become more explosive out of their first steps.

Max Velocity: Top-end speed isn’t just about moving your legs faster. It’s about how efficiently you apply force into the ground, maintain proper mechanics, and maximize each stride.

Deceleration: Being fast means very little if you can’t control that speed. Learning to absorb force and slow down efficiently allows athletes to transition into cuts, breaks, and changes of direction with greater control.

Change of Direction: The ability to redirect and reaccelerate is critical in football. Effective change of direction requires eccentric strength, body control, proper positioning, and the ability to produce force in a new direction.

These qualities don’t develop independently. Strength, power, mobility, and movement mechanics all play a role in how an athlete moves on the field.

That’s why our speed development goes beyond running drills. Our training combines field work, strength training, and performance assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop athletes at every stage of their careers.

Whether you’re preparing for your next college season, training for the NFL Combine, or competing at the highest level, there’s always another level of speed to develop.

Every athlete’s Combine preparation at YMP starts with comprehensive medical and movement assessments. What we learn helps shape their individual programming across the entire facility, from the weight room and field to physical therapy and recovery.

Our medical and performance departments communicate daily, sharing what they’re seeing and making adjustments as athletes progress through training.

The goal is simple: every department working together to keep athletes healthy, progressing, and performing at their best.

YMP PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chase Young continues to make his presence felt. Coming off another impactful performance against the Vikings with a fumble recovery, Young has now totaled 4 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery through five games this season.

For an elite pass rusher, explosiveness is everything. First-step quickness, rotational power, and the ability to generate force from the ground up all play a role in creating separation and getting to the quarterback.

At YMP, we train those qualities to translate where it matters most. On the field.

maturing as a rugby league or union player is realizing that conditioning is king.

strength & speed only matter if you can display them in repeated efforts for 80 minutes straight.

any bloke can have a few good tackles & a couple solid carries.

engine capacity > horse power.

this simple con sesh will take you from hands on hips in the first 10 minutes to being an absolute menace on the pitch until the final whistle blows:

the warm up:

couple dynamic stretches & the A series is all you really need - don’t gas out early.

speed endurance:

5 x 5m sprint to rapid decel.

3 x 10m sprint.

3 x 20m sprint.

3 x 30m sprint.

the walk back = the rest.

repeat speed:

2 x 10 - sprint down & back 10 times in a 20m grid.

malcoms:

start in the middle on your front - sprint 10m & hit the deck - turn, sprint 20m & hit the deck - then back to the middle & find your front again = 1 rep.

1 x 3 - rest 45s.

1 x 2 - rest 30s

1 x 1 - rest 2 mins & repeat again for a second set.

10-20-30 returns:

sprint 10m & back - 20m & back - 30m & back = 1 rep.

this is 3 x 3.

*video is 2x speed*

10s on - 20s off:

pretty self explanatory.

2 x 10 rounds - rest 3 min in between the two sets.

Strength is more than how much weight you can move. It’s how efficiently you produce force, how quickly you apply it, and how well it translates to the field.

We take an individualized, data-driven approach to strength development. From foundational strength and explosive power to position-specific programming, every rep has a purpose.

Using force plates, velocity-based training, NordBord testing, and on-field performance data, we identify what each individual athlete needs and build a program around it.

Train with intent. Build with purpose. Perform at the next level.

YMP PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Arvell Reese - 9 tackles. 1 TFL. 1 INT. 3 passes defended.

Another big-time performance from Arvell Reese, who continues to make his presence felt early in his rookie season.

The athleticism we’re seeing on Sundays is something we watched develop throughout his Combine prep at YMP. Arvell made major progress in his speed, explosiveness and movement efficiency throughout the process — ultimately running an official 4.46 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, tied for the fastest time among linebackers and edge defenders.

Now that speed is translating to the field: closing space, playing sideline to sideline and making plays in coverage.

Combine prep is bigger than preparing for one test or one day. It’s about developing qualities that carry over to the next level.

Arvell is showing exactly that.
