ONE RACE FOR EVERY PACE 🩷
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I ran my 7th marathon on Sunday @yorkshiremarathon . It was the 4th time I’d paced this race and the 6th time I’d paced a marathon for @northernpacingvolunteers , who I’ve represented some 15 times over the last 5 years across multiple distances including 5kms, 10kms and half marathons. Pacing 3hrs 15 mins for the first time was always going to be a new PB for me and, in perfect conditions on Sunday, we set a pace that felt good that was probably a bit too quick. With 4 miles to go, knowing we could come in under 3:10 if we didn’t slow down, I agreed with my fellow pacer that I’d take my group on to hit 3:12 and he held the remaining group to achieve 3:14:30. Sorry team NPV, but at least I wasn’t over. For the second year running (no pun intended), I’ve picked up the Yorkshire Double medal, having completed both the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May and the Yorkshire Marathon in October. I’m looking forward to pushing myself to pace even quicker in both next year, if I’m lucky enough to be selected to represent the pacing team again. Finally, please spend 30 seconds to watch the video. 26.2 miles is a long distance, so I’ve never had someone on the start line that says “they’re staying with me” who has still been there at the end - until Sunday. Harry, the young guy in the red t-shirt, ran hard to come in under 3:12 and was struggling over the last few miles, but he pushed on and finished a few seconds ahead of me. He immediately burst into tears as he crossed the line and the video captures the moment I congratulated him on an amazing run. Having finished in 3:11:57, the allusive sub-3hrs is very much on my radar!

First marathon. Done. 4:00:45. 42.3 kilometres through York. From KM 32, my legs started giving way. The same feeling I had at the ULTRACk 50 when I stopped at 30KM on a track. This time I didn’t stop. I walked KM 36 and 37. Then I ran again. That’s the whole story really. A season that started with a hamstring pull. A 10K in Edinburgh. A half marathon debut. And now this. Mo’s “Gooooo Dim” at the final lap and Ire’s “Daddy, Weeeeeeee” got me through this one #babysteps

Take home Thursday. This WAS NOT the time I expected to run the @yorkshiremarathon 🏃‍♀️ So many factors influenced my finishing time (7 days post recovering from a fractured medial malleolus and achillies tendonistis is a start)! I’ve questioned whether in my mind, I set myself up to ‘fail’ but I didn’t fail - I completed the marathon. The perfectionist in me classes a much slower finishing time as a failure. My perfectionistic standards have had the better of me all week, setting the bar higher than ever for my next race to compensate. The thing about perfectionism (perfectionistic strivings) is that you will never feel fulfilled. The expectations are unrealistic and unreachable. A healthier (more adaptive) goal is to aim for excellence. Excellencism means striving for very high, realistic, and attainable standards in a flexible, engaged way. Excellencism is associated with less distress preventing chronic self-criticism. Remember - it’s okay to be ‘good enough’ Peace out, V x ✌️ Link in bio for 15% off @getabearhug #perfectionism #excellence #sportspsychology #running #runner

🟢⚪️ MARATHON DOUBLE FOR IAN ⚪️🟢 A huge congratulations to Ian, who has completed not one, but TWO marathons in just seven days! 🏅 Chester Marathon – 3:47:17 🏅 Yorkshire Marathon – 3:40:10 Not only did Ian tackle two marathons in a week, he managed to run Yorkshire 7 minutes and 7 seconds faster than Chester! But there's an even more special story behind his Yorkshire Marathon appearance... Ian is part of an exclusive group of just 28 runners who have completed EVERY Yorkshire Marathon since the event began in 2013! An incredible achievement and a record he was determined to maintain, even with Chester just seven days earlier! Two marathons, two fantastic performances, and a remarkable Yorkshire Marathon streak that continues! Brilliant running, Ian! A fantastic achievement and one to be incredibly proud of! 💚🤍 #harrierhero #WakefieldDistrictHarriers #YorkshireMarathon #ChesterMarathon #MarathonLegend

🟢⚪️ MARATHON NUMBER 22 FOR CRAIG! ⚪️🟢 A huge congratulations to Craig, who completed the Yorkshire Marathon in a fantastic 3:36:53, bringing his impressive marathon tally to 22! 🏃‍♂️👏 Every marathon has its own story, and this one was no exception! Craig had originally set his sights on breaking the 3:30 barrier, but setbacks during training meant a change of plan was needed. Thankfully, his trainer Keith was on hand with some valuable advice, helping him rethink his race strategy. As Craig explained: "Keith refocused the strategy around smart pacing, managing the effort, and running the race on the day rather than blindly chasing the clock." And that approach certainly paid off, delivering another strong marathon performance and a result Craig was rightly proud of! 💪 But this marathon was about much more than the finishing time. Craig was keen to recognise the incredible support of his wife, Karen, throughout the build-up. From early morning lifts and supplying drinks on long runs to helping with his race preparation, she played a huge part in getting him to the start line. On race day, Karen, Charlotte and Harry were dotted around the course, providing those all-important boosts of encouragement. There was even a welcome sighting of fellow Harrier, "Ian the legend", along the way! 💚🤍 And the final six miles brought something particularly special, with Emily and Nathan joining Craig for the closing stretch. "We chatted away the fatigue, kept the energy high, and made that closing 10k an absolute blast right through to the finish." A lovely reminder that marathon running is about so much more than chasing times. It's about the people, the support and the memories made along the way. Craig summed it up perfectly: "Sub-3:30 will still be waiting on another start line, but sharing miles with family and having that kind of support is what it’s all about. On to number 23!" 22 marathons completed, another brilliant achievement and a fantastic story behind it! Well done, Craig! 👏💚🤍 #harrierhero #WakefieldDistrictHarriers #YorkshireMarathon #Marathon22 #MarathonRunning

Yorkshire Marathon 2026 🏃🏻‍♀️🌹🏃🏻‍♀️ My experience and takeaways 😊 Only my second marathon since London in 2024. The night before and morning of was much less anxiety provoking than London, being an event of approx. 10,000 people rather than 50,000. Getting to the start at the University of York was straightforward enough and organisation ran smoothly. 🗺️ I had been warned this wasn’t a totally flat course, but it was absolutely nothing to worry about. There is a (pretty short) hill in the final mile but at that point I was pleased to see it as I knew it meant the end was almost in sight! 👏 The route is really nice, going through the city and then several small villages. There was plenty of support and spectators to not feel at all bleak, and when heading back into the city the support was really good! 🏃 I liked the two out and back/turn-points as I enjoy watching runners passing the other way - it keeps my mind busy and entertained. ☀️ Really lucky that the weather was about perfect! Sunny, still and cool. London was warmer, being in April rather than October. 🍬 When I did London I had never tried gels, and I just took a few bits of food in my running belt, like dates (and some celebrations which were too melted to be edible). This time I practiced fuelling in training, found a gel that worked for me, and took one every 30-40 mins. This worked really well for me and I didn’t get hungry or feel my energy fade. 💧 There are water stations every 3 miles, bottles not cups which I suppose feels a bit wasteful but is so much easier to drink from on the go. I picked up a bottle at every station and had about 3 sips. I found this a perfect amount and didn’t have any hydration issues. The route being broken up by regular water stations was a good mental counter, too. I would definitely do this marathon again. The only thing I’d do differently is download music in advance, as I’d created a playlist to keep me going but my signal kept dropping out, meaning I listened to about the same 5 songs on repeat 🙃 Oh and I found out my Puma Deviate elites are sadly best suited to half-marathon and under (see 3rd pic 🥲) #yorkshire #marathon #raceday

I was a broken man. I looked around at the finish line and couldn’t help but envy those who crossed it with a smile. I wish I knew what that felt like on Sunday. 🎥 @takenbyfelix_

Well what an 18-weeks that was. What I learnt the most was that challenging yourself to do something that seems out of reach pushes you to do better every single day. Growth never came easy to anyone, so if this helps just one person go out there and set a goal that seems challenging for the better, then I’ve done my job. Finding something that pushes you to apply consistent discipline, resilience and constantly having to show up for yourself matters more than a chip time at the end of a race. So no matter how big or small it is find something that give you purpose to wake up in the morning and apply yourself to become the best version of yourself, for me, this comes easy when it’s training for marathons and performance. This was by no means a failure, but also it’s by no means the end…. Till next time, sub-3 still continues. Thankyou everyone for the support 🤜🤛 #fitness #training #running #marathon #sub3 @club.integrity and thankyou @yorkshiremarathon for a tough day out 💯

Officially part of the 1% Club. 🥹🏁 On Sunday, I ran the @yorkshiremarathon 26.2 miles of pushing through the pain, the doubts, the tired legs and all those moments when stopping would have been so much easier. Crossing that finish line was an emotional moment I’ll never forget. All the training, early mornings, sacrifices and miles finally came down to those final few steps. I didn’t just finish a marathon on Sunday I proved to myself that I could do something that once felt impossible. 42.2km. One finish line. One very proud moment. ❤️ Forever grateful for the experience and so proud to officially call myself part of the 1% Club.🏃‍♂️🏅 #YorkshireMarathon #MarathonRunner #1PercentClub #MarathonFinishLine #ProudMoment

Running the 10 mile race at the @yorkshiremarathon festival was a joy. In the place I ran my first marathon three years ago, I managed another PB. A beautiful day, running through the city and surrounding countryside in God’s own county with fellow runners from @orchardeaglesrunningclub. Cheers @coopahruncoach for now helping me hit a PB in every distance from 5k upto the marathon. Feeling a little bit chuffed with myself ☺️
