Illustration for ’Figurine’ by @young.eris , for @extrateethmag . ✨ A really captivating and strange story about a mysterious little figurine that slowly begins to awaken something more primal in the people around it.

Had the best time at Edinburgh Fringe with @pastelbarney who planned our schedule like our military operation, We saw about 8 shows a day! Also got to see @young.eris read at the Edinburgh Book Fair! My highlights were: The humane and uplifting and beautiful Sanctuary, Creepy Boys: Slugs, which is weird and gross and also humane and uplifting and beautiful (and gross), Alone, a taut two-hander from New Zealand about women astronauts on a doomed mission, the ridiculous and wonderful immersive horror comedy Jill’s Tupperware Party, and performance artist/comedian/bonkers delight, Harriet Richardson’s Creep.

“An absolute page-turner that masterfully blends Victorian crime with unearthly menace”

The Crooked Medium’s Guide to Terror
A striking book cover with the title and author name dominating.
The lettering and detail are pale against a dark and sinister red-brown. The Title is in large Victorian lettering emphasising the word Terror, and framed by gold. Three roundels show icons related to the book; left, a half folded cutthroat razor streaked with red, top right, pearl jewellery with three pearls and a pearl effect locket; bottom right a burning railwayman’s lamp.
The effect is striking and Victorian.
Placed next to the Crooked Medium’s Guide to Murder (dark blue) there is a strong series resemblance.
The Crooked Medium’s Guide to Murder by Stephen Cox
A striking book cover with the title and author name dominating.
A rich dark blue background, and a touch of mist. The text appears in gold in a gold rectangular frame, the font is old fashioned implying C19th century. The frame has three rondels or cameos each containing a picture. Top right is a golden bee brooch with the body and one wing streaked with red blood. Middle left is foxgloves, spires of small bell flowers in pink, white and purple. Bottom right is a dark brown medicine bottle, with a pale label. The word LAUDANUM is just visible.
There are pink highlights on some of the letters.
Taken together it is bold, mysterious, and Victorian.

🩷🌸 On Wednesday We Read Pink 🌸🩷

I’ve been using my Monday Blues, Pink Wednesday, and Five Star Friday spotlights all month to celebrate Pride! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Today’s Pink Wednesday spotlight is Ace Voices: What it Means to Be Asexual, Aromantic, Demi, or Grey-Ace by @young.eris

This is my new-to-me non-fiction read for June and it’s one that I’ve found very informative and useful. I didn’t always have the right language and spent most of my life believing that I was “miswired” or “broken” in some way, trying to play a part and faking emotions/feelings that I just assumed I was “supposed” to have. Coming across this language has been very healing and affirming for me. I’m still navigating were I fit under the a-spec umbrella, but I’m glad to know it’s there! 🖤🩶🤍💜
