Haha! Do forgive my croaky voice… but I’m TRYING to get going again after getting this nasty cold and a dose of laryngitis (a first for me - I literally had no voice at all for 3 days 😫)

Anyway - instead of just feeling sorry for myself and lying on the sofa - again - I decided to come up to the studio and work on 3 paintings I have on the go atm. An hour later, after fiddling about, cleaning brushes and generally getting nowhere, it struck me. I just can’t move on with them, because they’re stuck. Or I’m stuck.

There’s only one solution to that, I find - sand them down and ‘out with the gesso!’

Nothing like a big white patch of nothingness to get you thinking differently!
What do YOU do when you get stuck?

Bet you don’t make a stupid croaky video do ya? 😂😂😂

Some of my favourite pieces available at @bobcatgallery during October. The gallery is taking part in Wandsworth Arts week https://www.psad.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/Putney-Leaflet-Digital-1.pdf on 3/4 October and 10/11 October featuring a solo exhibition by another @your_art_tribe member Laura Parker. It’ll be a very exciting month in the gallery - thanks Cat 😊🎨 #supportlocalartists #supportlicalgalleries #acrylicartists #mixedmediaartistofinstagram #colourfulartwork

How can I use texture and mark making to create more drama ,movement and energy in the landscape ?.
An experimental week led by a series of challenges supported by @your_art_tribe .
I love where the course is pushing me. On the right an earlier, more observational way of working concentrating on delineating each element ; on the left I allowed the materials to become much more active-scraping,layering,splattering ,obscuring and responding-having fun . It’s still early days experimenting but to me it holds more of the force and energy of the place
Thanks to @samboughton for her enthusiastic videos
‘Which speaks more strongly to you-the more recognisable landscape or the more abstract energetic version ?

Inspired by @louisefletcher_art course “Find Your Way” -shared through the inspiring @your_art_tribe I was encouraged to dive deep into ME.
The writing is still there beneath the paint -Fears.
Scars
Painful memories.
I didn’t erase them -instead I chose to build on them letting the inky words bleed through ripped, torn, tissue, rice paper layers-scraped and scratched like the lines of my well-lived face
I simply choose not to give them the final word.. instead this painting marks the beginning of the artist I’m still becoming

I’m collecting, I notice. I make.
For a long time I thought I was searching for my style. I’m beginning to realise I was searching for MY ENQUIRY. Louise Fletcher’s “Find My Way” project has encouraged me to stop asking “what should I paint?” and to start asking “what keeps calling me back?”
When I made this mind map, the same words kept appearing:-Witness. Traces. What Remains.Thresholds. Journey.
Without overthinking I began an intuitive collage. Maps, handwriting, fragments, old accounts;faces-they all found their way onto the page before I made any conscious decisions -laying the foundations of what comes next.-the beginning of a body of work exploring Spirit of Place
Thank you @louisefletcher_art for giving me the practical tools, thoughtful questions and most importantly the confidence to trust my own direction.
@your_art_tribe -thank you for support and encouragement

It’s weird to think that slowing down to listen to the sound of birds can actually train my eye to see better !

This was my observation at figure drawing this week after the prompts of noticing that I’d set for us in @your_art_tribe this past month.

Sarah @sarahnelsonstudio had us painting the figure with a long brush and an orange peel.
This switch in material moved my drawings from expressive and loose to something more considered

It was the slowing down that did it… the longer pose to let the eye notice and translate.
Coupled with the fact that I now had a long brush in my hand dipped in ink along with an orange peel in the other hand - not the easiest of tools but they really worked to give me a different way in

Edge of the world- an afternoon of utter joy reflecting in my way the landscape that brought me so much joy. No longer fearful of bold expressive mark making -thank you @your_art_tribe and @lewisnoble_artist .. a very simple set up (all my 70+ young body can carry up to St Ninians church on Isle of Whithorn) I was lost in the beauty;peace and love of land and sea.

I was so honored to be asked to create a video to be part of the @your_art_tribe May masterclass based on how I gather inspiration for a painting or series.

It felt daunting at first, as inspiration comes to me in so many different ways, and varies widely based on the type of work I am making.

I had such a blast making this video. Thank you for including me this month. ⚡️🖤⚡️
