Now in its 7th year, the @universityofthepacific Pacific Impact Media Fellowship brings students together to explore how storytelling can inspire social change and create meaningful community impact. Our first weekend brought together students from across Pacific @copacific @pacificsoecs @uopacificshs. Students are learning from Pacific alumni @pacificalumni Chris Schueler, an Emmy Award-winning documentary filmmaker with 20 Emmy Awards, and Dean Butler, actor (Little House on the Prairie) and accomplished producer. We’re also thrilled to welcome back recent Media Arts & Production graduates Jose Flores-Jimenez, Moises Guzman Naranjo, Jess Hess, and Asher Bloom. From independent filmmaking and award-winning creative production to professional film producing and interdisciplinary storytelling, they’re bringing their talents and real-world experience back to Pacific. Their journeys reflect the possibilities that emerge when creative vision, collaboration, and a commitment to storytelling come together. One weekend down, one to go! We can’t wait to see the stories these teams bring to life and the impact they can make. Photos by Kevin Fellers

We don’t take for granted when someone opens up to us. That shares a story they’ve never told anyone. During our prep for the ‘Beyond The Miles’ series with @guenergylabs & @runchachi (the main subject in one of the films) the word “poderosa” came up. “Poderosa” means powerful, strong, resilient in Spanish. We quickly recognized how authentic it is in relation to Cristina’s story. I believe the most relatable stories are the aspirational ones. The ones where the person is working towards something, still becoming. In this film, Cristina shares a few things she’s learned about herself along that road. Things that others might learn about themselves, on their own journeys. _________ CREDITS Production Company ODYSY Media @odysymedia Client GU Energy Labs @guenergylabs Director / Producer Ulises Garcia @ulises.odysy Director of Photography Edwinn Heu @edwinnheu Editor Asher Bloom @yourpalasher Production Assistant Tia Lee @tiaraecreative

We love what we do—and at the heart of every new song idea, every rehearsal and every performance is one question: Will the audience love this? How can we make it more memorable, more joyful, more surprising? How can we create a moment that will be felt and heard? So we work on it until we love it. Then we record it, step back, watch and listen. Sometimes it’s ready. Sometimes its back to rehearsal to reshape it, and begin the process again. Finally, we get to perform it for you. The performance is definately the dessert and a favorite part for us. But the rehearsing, woodshedding, experimenting and refining that lead to that moment is who we are and, what we’ve been preparing for most of our lives. The collaboration and community is an enduring gift. This is a great quote that encompasses how we think about what we do. “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist.” — Pablo Picasso For us, artistic interpretation is always about elevating the audience experience. How can we bring more heart, energy and happy surprise to the room? How can we contribute something unforgettable to a once in a lifetime celebration? Thank you for supporting live music and making it possible to do what we love all year long. We are daily grateful for the opportunity. Thank you to the amazing team that helped make this all happen! I think, the difference between saying something and telling a story is how you present information. Through half of this project with @guenergylabs ,we got to work with @tuvshin_nomad. We went beyond the surface of just a chronological list of events in his life. So, we were able to put the pieces together to best tell a story. ______ CREDITS Production Company ODYSY Media @odysymedia Client GU Energy Labs @guenergylabs Director / Producer Ulises Garcia @ulises.odysy Director of Photography Edwinn Heu @edwinnheu Editor Asher Bloom @yourpalasher Production Assistant Tia Lee @tiaraecreative

More @wser content the team cooked up last week w/ @guenergylabs . The challenge will always be trying to come up with a new way of documenting what you capture and the output. The energy and footage the race provides will always be there in my opinion, just shaping and how you use your “ingredients” might change from year to year. 🎥: @ulises.odysy ✂️: @yourpalasher 📸: @mattlarson.jpg
