Did Southern prepare you for the real world… or were we just ready to leave? 🤔💙💛

Be honest. @ystbyou

Did Southern University truly prepare you for life after graduation, or did we leave campus without fully understanding what adulthood, careers, finances, relationships, and responsibilities.

What lessons did Southern teach you that still guide you today—and what do you wish someone had prepared you for before you walked across that stage?

Let’s have an honest conversation. No right or wrong answers.

The exponential cringe editing this reel 🙈

But also the endless giggling 🤭💃🏼

So much natural rhythm from The Jodies 😂 Immediate lessons required from @ystbyou *

*Although to be clear I don’t think I should ever attempt a body roll ever again in my life 😬

Thanks for always being an idiot with me @jodiedevries_

Freshman dorms turned into family.
Those late‑night talks, shared noodles, broke‑college‑kid struggles… that’s where half the lifelong bonds were forged. @ystbyou @krysgat @anika @candacejdaniel @shicne21

🤝 Organizations turned strangers into siblings.
Whether it was Greek life, band, student leadership, or just the crew you always saw in the Union —
those connections stuck because they were built on purpose, pride, and culture.

“Southern University wasn’t just school… it was survival training.
If you never stood in a registration line that wrapped around the building twice, you missed a whole era.

Financial Aid?
Baby… you needed a connect.
Somebody’s cousin.
Somebody’s mama.
Somebody who ‘worked in the back.’
If you didn’t know nobody, just bring snacks — you were gonna be there all day.

But the best part?
It felt like a family reunion.

A lot of men aren’t closed off.
They’re cautious.

Not because they don’t want to be vulnerable,
but because they’ve seen their vulnerability turned into ammunition.

They’ve had:

• their secrets repeated,
• their fears mocked,
• their honesty thrown back at them,
• their pain used for control.

So they learned to protect themselves.

Why are @southernu_br alumni obsessed with their school?

Because SU isn’t just a campus — it’s culture, legacy, family, and a whole identity that follows you forever.
