Now that the dust has settled and I can start making sense of this year's Burning Man, the moments I continue to cherish happened beyond the desert. The misty ascent to gather a fragment from a storied 5000 year old Japanese Cypress, its incorporation into original poetry placed right in the molten center of the event thanks to a treasured calligrapher and curation by @katiehazard and construction by @daladum and @jeremycrandell and more, the beautiful poster design thanks to @okenoch , the translational laser cut pine panels thanks to @steelandfeels, the installation of an aerial banyan root from the center of Bali thanks to carriage from @putu_mahagiri and @yuanantha, the kind and unreciprocable welcome thanks to old friends who became new campmates, the drive in with @eyevolution, and more. Very unlike my other 17 years out there, I spent much of the week weakened and withdrawn in a borrowed tent, wondering what all and everything was all about, how a stop and go writing project might go and stop, how I'd get out and go in all the same same but different. And I did and I am. 🙏 💜

The poem:

Cryptomerian Calligraphy

緑燃ゆ midori moyu
green ignites

dust bursts into dance

人黄金と輝く hito ōgon to kagayaku
the Man shines as gold

dew drips and drops

hidden seeds wait to grow

Contemporary Dance (Ayu Anantha 2026)
TERIKAT 🤍 Ikatan Perempuan, Bali & Adat

Dua tubuh saling bersandar.

Ditampilkan pada Opening SASAMA: Continuum of Giving (2026) 📍 Blue Karma Creative Hub

Ni Komang Ayu Anantha Putri is a Balinese contemporary dancer, choreographer, and artistic director based in Ubud. She is the founder of Kerta Art, a platform dedicated to preserving and evolving Balinese dance through education, performance, and cultural exchange.

Her work bridges traditional Balinese movement with contemporary expression, exploring themes of identity, ritual, femininity, and human connection. Rooted in classical technique, her choreography expands into modern forms with strong emotional depth and visual storytelling.

Here is a short video from when I visited her space to get to know her in person.
A moment of connection, movement, and shared curiosity. Enjoy 🤍
This amazing music is also by @paskalsuraj

Part 3 of 3

@nmth.mrtn cooks a Hungarian feast for all of us @parashati_ubud

The night slowly builds with both story and excitement.

The family atmosphere was palpable. Kids were being kids, adults were being adults/kids again :)

I hope this video serves as a beautiful memory for all involved, as it was a special night for me, and Martin at least!! Thanks brother 👊

The night had a crescendo moment when Made (AKA BIG BOSS!) joins us at the end 💪

Big thanks to @yuanantha and @jiro_putra for your gracious hospitality, openness to try new things, playful spirits, and perfect kitchen/environment to build such a memorable evening in. Matur Suksma 🙏

"Authentic is your power."

In Ubud with a special collaboration with the light and bubbly contemporary Balinese dancer, Ayu @yuanantha .

Of course visiting her would NOT be possible without hitting the streets and meeting her brother in Canggu, @delsymanuartha and his wife @dithamarini19

In this video, Ayu describes what she does @kerta_art , her philosophy, and how dance impacts her life and the life of her students and family.

Thank you to @jiro_putra for allowing me to stay at your lovely property parashati_ubud
