The BEST thing you can do for skill acquisition:

Is to record yourself.

I understand you don't want to "feel like an influencer" or give off the impression that you're vain.

But other people really don't care. Just be courteous, ask permission, and don't be a weiner if people walk in the way.

Things often look different when we view it from an outside perspective. We can self coach more effectively when we don't have to recall every detail from memory.

You can be your own coach.

And if *I* am your coach, I can always do my job better when there's footage (y'all know who you are).

And we all carry around a high quality camera at all times!

Just put forth the effort to film - I promise it'll pay dividends almost immediately.

If you’re only teaching your students your personal game and not staying up to date with the evolving meta in IBJJF and other competitive circuits, you’re doing the bare minimum.

Whether they compete or not, they’re paying to become competent in jiu-jitsu — and the highest level of jiu-jitsu IS sport jiu-jitsu. It’s your responsibility to prepare them to hold their own against anyone — not just other hobbyists, but high-level competitors too.

Stay current. Do right by your students.

I did not compete much this year due to life being busy and full of surprises. But going to watch my teammates today give it their best got me inspired.
I then reflected and thought to myself I’m not the same person in these pictures, I’m actually a better version of myself now and that inner fire still burns inside. Next year is going to be 🔥🔥🔥🔥 let’s fucken go!!!!
