🇹🇷 Gördüğünüz bu bisiklet ahşap! 100 gün önce İngiltere'den yola çıkan Tom, dünya turu kapsamında bisikletiyle Avrupa kıtasını katederek ülkemize ulaştı ve şu anda Türkiye'den geçiyor. Konya'da tanışma ve hikayesini dinleme fırsatı bulduğum kendisine yaptığı yolculukta başarılar diliyorum. 🇬🇧 This bicycle you see is made of wood! Tom, who set off from England 100 days ago, has reached our country by cycling across the European continent as part of his world tour and is currently passing through Türkiye. I had the opportunity to meet him in Konya and listen to his story, and I wish him success on his journey. Keep on Riding bro! @cycling_tom

My parents came to visit me on the road. No fixed plan for where we’d meet – they just used the tracker to find me (link in bio). I was on a small back road expecting them to pass on the main road, looked behind me and there they were. One of those moments that will stay with me for the entire trip. They kindly took my tent, sleeping bag and anything else I didn’t need, which made a noticeable difference. Turns out cycling is a lot easier when you’re not carrying everything you own☝️😂 The scenery through this part of Turkey was extra stunning – incredible mountains, great roads and the kindness of the local people is something else. If you’re looking for a different bikepacking destination, put this area on your list. After lunch my parents followed my route and waited for me at the top of a climb, taking photos and videos as I came in. May have also grabbed onto the side of the car for a tow up a couple of hills along the way. Don’t tell the Strava elevation police. 😉😂 Tough day overall but an incredible one. Another reminder of why I’m doing this. I knew on paper that this bike was going to be incredible. It had all the ingredients of a seriously capable bikepacking machine: a beautifully made wooden frame from @zafi.cycles , some of the best components in the game from @use.components , a beautiful custom saddle from @posedla.cc , wheels to die for from @dandyhorsewheels, a fork that turns heads from @samplemaker_fr , a @garbaruk_components drivetrain built to handle pretty much whatever I throw at it, and a @tailfincycling luggage system that balances speed with practicality. But there was one thing I couldn’t know until I actually rode it. Would it all work together? After 4,000+ km across Europe, I have the answer. This bike is an absolute pleasure to ride. And perhaps the biggest surprise for me has been the comfort. Before starting this journey, I assumed that spending eight-plus hours in the saddle, day after day, inevitably meant accepting a certain level of pain and discomfort. What I’ve realised is that it doesn’t have to. The right frame size, a professional bike fit from @activ_cycles and the right components can make a huge difference to how you feel after a long day. 250 hours in the saddle and no major issues. 59 days ago you stood at a start line not knowing if any of this would work out. You ripped up your life, told everyone what you were doing and quietly made yourself a deal – just get to Istanbul. If you could get to Istanbul, whatever happened after that would be okay. Today you cycled into Istanbul. 4,229 kilometres. 252 hours in the saddle. 31,861 metres climbed. 12 countries. 0 punctures. And more memories than you’ll ever be able to fit into a caption. But here’s the thing nobody told you about setting a goal that terrifies you. The moment you achieve it hits differently to how you imagined. The emotion arrives before the words do. It’s surreal and celebratory all at once – and somewhere in the middle of it all you find yourself wondering how you got from there to here. The community that got behind you from day one – you felt every single message, every donation, every comment on the hard days. This was never just your ride. It belongs to every person who believed in it before you did. And to every brand that believed in this project from day one – thank you. You’re part of this too. Leg 1 done. Europe was everything. In 2021, while cycling from Land’s End to John o’ Groats, Tom passed out. He had a hidden heart condition. It took years of uncertainty and three surgeries to get it under control. Tom was fortunate. His condition was treatable. But an estimated 12 seemingly fit people under the age of 35 die from undiagnosed cardiac conditions every week in the UK. Tom is now cycling around the world, raising awareness and funds for @cardiacriskintheyoung – a cause that is personal to him. A project he calls Ride Beyond Limits. Rode through the Iron Gates today – one of the most spectacular stretches of the entire Danube and Eurovelo 6. For roughly 130km along the Serbia to Romania border, the river cuts straight through the Carpathian and Balkan mountains,  and honestly, pictures don’t quite do it justice. The cliffs rise hundreds of metres above the water in places.  Passed the widest point of the entire river today – six km wide. Heading towards the biggest hydro dam on the Danube next, which also doubles as a crossing point between Romania and Serbia. The dam raised the water level here by almost 100 feet when it was built, changing the whole shape of the gorge.  One of those days where the scenery did all the talking.
