The American Film Association will honor internationally acclaimed mental health advocate, bestselling author, and award-winning filmmaker Kevin Hines with its 2026 Impact Award at the organization’s inaugural gala on November 8, 2026, at The Beverly Hilton.

More than two decades ago, Kevin survived a suicide attempt from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then, he has transformed his experience into a lifelong mission to break the silence surrounding mental health, challenge stigma, foster compassion, and affirm that recovery is possible and every life is worth living.

Through his advocacy, writing, and filmmaking, Kevin demonstrates storytelling’s power to inspire meaningful change. His latest documentary, Death Bridge, directed by Kevin and executive produced by Logan Paul, Zak Williams, Tay Lautner, Taylor Lautner, Frank Kilpatrick, and Dan Martell, chronicles the courage, heartbreak, and advocacy behind efforts to prevent suicide at the Golden Gate Bridge. The film is produced by Kevin, Margaret Hines, David Covington, Mart Simon, and Sean A. Marin.
The Impact Award recognizes individuals whose contributions extend beyond their profession and leave an enduring mark on humanity. Kevin exemplifies that standard through a lifetime dedicated to saving lives, advancing mental health awareness, and helping others find renewed purpose.
Zak Williams, mental health advocate, entrepreneur, producer, and son of Robin Williams, will present Kevin with the award.

The gala will bring together leaders from the entertainment, advocacy, and philanthropic communities for an evening celebrating the transformative power of film, the resilience of the human spirit, and Kevin’s commitment to helping others live theirs.

Happy anniversary @zakpym ❤️ 10/10 - our anniversary, world mental health day, and also your rating as a husband, baby daddy, and business partner!! 6 years married, 9 years together, 2.999 kids, a couple businesses, a few moves, and a lot of laughs. I love you so much, and am so grateful for the life we have built through our shared vision and values and joy and love. Doing life with you is the best decision I’ve ever made, and one that continues to never fail in growth and adventure and a future that I know has so many amazing things in store for us… most imminent being the count down to meet our third baby!!! ❤️ I love you always forever.

We are thrilled to announce that Zak Williams is joining the Board of Directors of the National Center for Victims of Internet and Cyber Exploitation (NCVIC).

Zak is the CEO and co-founder of @youcanpym, a neurotransmitter health company, and a leading voice in the mental health advocacy space. Following the death of his father, Robin Williams, Zak channeled personal grief into public purpose — speaking openly about his own journey through anxiety and depression and working to dismantle the stigma around mental health. He has served as Chairman of Bring Change to Mind, as a US trustee for United for Global Mental Health, and as an advisor to organizations including Project Healthy Minds and Inseparable.

That work has particular significance for our mission. For victims of online exploitation, the harm can reach into every part of life, affecting relationships, livelihoods, as well as their physical safety. At NCVIC, Zak will bring his experience in advocacy, nonprofit leadership, and entrepreneurship to our work protecting victims and building stronger systems of accountability for online abuse. We’re grateful to have his perspective and commitment as we help survivors reclaim control over their lives.

Please welcome Zak Williams to the show!! @zakpym is the son of the late great actor, comedian, and icon Robin Williams. Someone who brought a lot of joy and healing into this world.

I see therapy as healing. And in many ways, Robin’s work was therapy for millions of people.

We talked about the impact of his dad’s legacy, Zak’s own mental health journey, and even got Zak to rank his favorite movies of his dad’s ;)

The episode is live now wherever you get your podcasts. Enjoy!
