Cannot wait to share our studio guest for this month’s show. Clue: she’s London born, raised by Nigerian parents. Her music is so nineties coded in the best of ways. In the meantime, please catch up on past episodes via Spotify and Apple Podcasts (linked in bio) 📻 🎶

On this episode we move through afrotech, gqom, 3step, and amapiano under the theme “Amapiano Is Not Dead— It’s Evolving.” Framed as a live sonic essay, the show traces the migration of sound across genres, emphasizing continuity rather than rupture.
The first hour unfolds as a layered DJ mix that begins in atmospheric afrotech, descends into the percussive minimalism of gqom, and re-emerges through amapiano classics—positioned not as nostalgia, but as living, generative forms. The second hour departs from the standard interview format and instead offers a series of reflections on genre, memory, and sonic transformation. Moving between short mixes and commentary, the broadcast considers how amapiano persists through its mutations—particularly within 3step and adjacent electronic forms—challenging narratives of decline. What emerges is a meditation on sound as archive: fluid, embodied, and always in motion.

Its Oscar Award season and exactly 10 years since “The Oscars So White” protest which then gave momentum to dialogue around “Representation Matters”. In light of this, I spoke to African filmmaker/director Akin Omotoso and his approach to storytelling in Hollywood and beyond. The full conversation and past episodes of “The Witch’s Flight” -are now available on YouTube, Spotify & Apple Podcasts. Please subscribe
