POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

As I’ve been gathering archival evidence of my media practice which spans from the age of 16years old, I am rediscovering parts of me that I’d completely forgotten. I truly have lived multiple lives for someone whose only been alive for just a little over 30 years. Also, I don’t wanna hear nothing about how the makeup artist did me so dirty on this look😂 📻 📺 🎙️ by @zamadube

This weekend we officially joined the one percent. Allow me to reintroduce myself, it’s DOCTOR(of Philosophy) Zama Dube,PhD. Five and a half years later, my two mothers traveled for 28hours to witness what my late grandmother had already prophesied. Special thank you to the Edward Bouchet Honor society for being the first place where I got to present the earliest stages of this dissertation. Thank you to the UCLA Ralph Bunche Center for supporting me with a pre-doctoral fellowship to aid a portion of this research. Major gratitude to the Teshome Gabriel Memorial trust for awarding me twice with travel funding. The UCLA Center for the Study of Women for a travel grant fellowship and an award for Black feminist research. Major thanks to the Marty Sklar family and REMAP for awarding me as their inaugural fellow in entertainment innovation. My therapist and my acupuncture therapist held me in such sacred ways during my most fragile moments. My family, my late grandmother and late uncles. You all continue to guide and watch over me. My sister friends, you know who you are. My fairy god brother and dissertation committee member, Dr. Aymar Jean Christian for always cheering me and ending every academic counselling session with an astrological forecast 😅To GOD! I owe it all to you Mvelinqangi. It’s going to take time to fully register because what do you do, once you’ve climbed Mount Everest? taken in University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) by @zamadube

Loved. Gifted. Bright. Unshaken. 💛

Words can dim a person’s heart. But good words make us shine. 💡✨

Media broadcaster and scholar Dr. @zamadube reminds us to never let anyone dim our light.

Let’s speak life, love, and light into each other — and help the whole world shine brighter.

Black Miami and Durban share so many parallels and I neeeeeed these to be studied. Anyway in May 2020 I wrote a short musing on “Moonlight” and “Daughters of the Dust” because for me, both these films have given us a VISUAL GRAMMAR for what is means to LOVE BLACK SKIN 🖤 🌙 ✨
