New “Work in Progress” episode with artist and architect Jorge Otero-Pailos @oteropailosstudio founder of @futureanterior

LINK IN BIO

Renowned architect, scholar and artist Jorge Otero-Pailos has revolutionized the field of cultural heritage preservation through thought-provoking experimental projects. On today’s show, he talks about casting the soot and dust of the British Parliament in monumental sheets of latex as part of his ongoing series, “The Ethics of Dust,” as well as the unforeseen meanings that work acquired when it was unveiled during the fateful Brexit vote of 2016. He also discusses his new painting show, “Capitol Collective,” about the U.S. Capitol Building, which opens Friday, Sept. 25, at Zane Bennett Gallery in Santa Fe. @zanebennettgallery

Capitol Collective is a new body of paintings and drawings based on the plan of the U.S. Capitol. I’m interested in what happens when the apparent certainty of the architectural plan meets the less orderly processes of painting and collective memory—when lines shift, colors accumulate, and an image that seems fixed becomes something open to change.

I’m very happy to finally share these works in Santa Fe, and delighted to see the exhibition featured in Artforum.

CAPITOL COLLECTIVE
Zane Bennett Contemporary Art
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Opening tomorrow, September 25, 5–7 pm
I’ll be there and would love to see you.
On view through January 9, 2027. Press Release, Capitol Collective.pdf

It was an honor to have shown this co-creation @zanebennettgallery. I could not have been more grateful in allowing my relatives to speak to others, and sharing the space with other relatives at the gallery. Thank you to all that had viewed the work and thank you @zanebennettgallery for this opportunity.
