A Santa Fe architectural icon, reimagined through sculpture.

Roberto Cardinale shares his sculpture of the Scottish Rite Temple, built in 1912 and inspired by the Alhambra in Spain. The work extends beyond its architecture: Cardinale’s wife, collage artist PJ Cardinale, creates the interior drawers that bring narrative to the piece, while a Masonic symbol rendered in 22-karat gold leaf adds another layer of meaning.

Join us this Saturday, October 17, from 2–3 p.m. for an artist talk with Roberto Cardinale.

Join us Saturday, October 17, from 2–3 p.m. for an artist talk with Roberto Cardinale, artist and former Benedictine monk, as he shares the stories, travels, and life experiences behind his exhibition “Structures That Shape Us.”

Since 1985, Cardinale has created nearly 1,000 hand-built sculptures inspired by churches, missions, synagogues, and other buildings of faith. Working primarily in New Mexico white pine with richly painted surfaces, he transforms monumental sacred architecture into intimate objects for contemplation.

Hear Cardinale discuss the roots of his studio practice, his relationship to sacred architecture, and the places that continue to shape his work.

Discussion and questions are encouraged.

One building can change the course of a life.

For Christopher Domin, co-curator of “Framing the Desert,” it was Judith Chafee’s Ramada House. First encountered as an architecture student, Chafee’s work ultimately helped lead him to Arizona and to years spent researching and preserving her remarkable legacy.

Hear Domin share the story behind the exhibition and celebrate the enduring influence of Judith Chafee.
