Darkroom Session: Zebra Dry Plate development of my pltes that I shot yesterday with my photography club, Photo Club Aremac. We drove along the Richelieu River from Vieux Beloeil to St-Antoine-sur-Richelieu then crossed over to St-Denis-sur-Richelieu and on to St-Charles-sur-Richelieu.

Here are the 3 plates I brought with me, the first 2 shots are of Le Chateau Saint-Antoine in Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu. I shot it at 4sec @ f/22 and the 2nd, which captured from thenegative a little more details in the shadows at 6sec @ f/22.

I will post the psoitives as soon as I get the scans done later this week.

I want to thank the members who participated i the outing and for there patiences as I was the only one with film and large format plates.

Watch me make the tintype plate I wanted to make while panning a drift car with my large format camera at the @mbdriftseries event at @rockinghamspeedway. Tintypes are one-of-a-kind positive images on metal (no negatives and no prints unless digitally scanned).

I had to shoot this at 1/8s f/5.6 ISO 2 because the Sun was setting. No auto anything! All me, hand-eye coordination, and a don’t tell me what’s impossible! I don’t think I ever tell myself I shouldn’t be doing something, I’m going to find a way. Also, for future attempts I have (even with a rickety tripod!) And fyi I purchased a better tripod (@reallyrightstuff ftw!) but I’d say I made this one work!

This was maybe the second or third attempt on my first day of trying this type of photography. I did not expect to nail it this hard y’all!

Chemistry: @zoneimagingltd used my home dark room for this one. I didn’t have a chance to develop this in the historic NASCAR dark room on site, sadly.
Equipment: 8x10 @intrepidcamera reduced to 4x5.

My most successful dry plate “tintype” to date. I’ve had far more failures than successes. But I’m low key obsessed with the process (there’s basically zero doubt that I’m going to end up making a giant wet plate collodion photography at some point) I thought I had a formula for success well@sorted out…but it fell apart and started producing awful results. So I made a couple of (what I hope are well thought out) tweaks…and had two successful results back to back. So we’ll see if it holds and I can finally start producing a reliable result 🤞 #analog #dryplate #alternative #process #photography

Terminada la restauración de la cámara de J. Lancaster & Son bautizada como "The Special Instantograph", sentí la necesidad de utilizarla con los materiales más parecidos a los de su época. Y así me topé con las placas secas de Zebra Dryplates, fabricadas manualmente en Eslovenia.

Además de las placas, también me facilitaron el tiocianato amónico necesario para hacer un positivo directo, que es lo más parecido al colodión húmedo de la época.

Revelador y fijador de @foto_r3 como es habitual.

Como modelo recurrí a unas piezas de cerámica de @quepasarapaza que me regaló mi amigo del alma @tibuko.

Y el resultado está aquí. Lleno de imperfecciones pero con una gama tonal deliciosa y una estética que me transporta a otro siglo.

Lo próximo será un retrato... se buscan voluntari@s!

Premier test de photo sur plaque de verre.
Pas le bon révélateur (trop aggressif) et pas mal d’erreur dont un coup de flash d’iPhone dans la gueule de la plaque pile avant le développement mais c’est ok, le procédé est incroyable dans tous les cas ça va s’entraîner fort ♥️📷
