An impossible shot? We had to try. 🚴📸

Capturing the European Cycling Championships in Slovenia with a handheld Primer 8×10 camera and Zebra Standard glass dry plates rated at just ISO 2!

At 1/15s, we had to pan the entire camera with the riders as they flew past. Then came the darkroom wait… had we actually captured anything?

Watching those cyclists appear on the glass was pure excitement. We got it! 🙌

Today, Zebra turns five! 🎂

My team and I marked Zebra’s birthday with an Autochrome, as that felt like the best way to reflect on how far we’ve come.

Five years ago, I was exploring my love for dry plate photography in a small shipping container and sharing my craft on YouTube. I never imagined that my job would disappear overnight because of the COVID pandemic, or that losing it would eventually lead me to turn my passion for dry plate photography into a business.

A lot has happened since then. The Zebra team keeps growing, we have a proper workspace now, our coating machine is up and running, and our plates are reaching more photographers around the world than ever before. Along the way, we’ve developed new products, built tools for analog photographers, and met so many people who share our love for this craft.

We wouldn’t be here without your support, and we’re incredibly grateful for the analog community we’ve built together.

Thank you for being part of this journey, and for helping us keep this craft alive. 🖤

We tried an impossible shot. 🚴📸

The European Cycling Championships have just wrapped up in Slovenia, and we took the opportunity to try something a little different.

Photographing fast-moving cyclists with a handheld Primer 8×10 camera and Zebra glass dry plates rated at just ISO 2 was quite the challenge. At 1/15s, we had to pan the entire camera with the riders as they passed.

The result speak for itself.✨

“OPEN YOUR EYES!”

The winner of our Dry Plate Day 2026 Challenge. 🎉

Stefan’s photograph is a homage to the vinyl LP cover of Jeff Bridges’ Sleeping Tapes, featuring artwork by Lou Beach.
As a lover of both analogue photography and vinyl records, Stefan was drawn to the album’s unusual die-cut cover, where the illustration’s eyes change as the inner sleeve is pulled out.

He recreated the image as a tintype dry plate, with his son Leka in the photograph. He wanted to show him that abstract images can be created using analogue techniques, without AI.

This photograph caught our attention with its beautiful execution, as well as the intention behind it.

Thank you to everyone who shared their work with us. We’re very happy to have this community of photographers making, sharing and learning from each other. 🖤

Photographed with a 9×12 camera from 1938, using 9×12 Zebra Glass Dry Plates and the latest Zebra Autochrome Developer we’re currently working on. 👀

A 9×12 Aluminum Dry Plate Cassette was used in the process as well.

As the world around us moves faster and faster, we believe there's something important about slowing down when we can.
Taking the time to make something by hand, to experiment, to wait for an image to appear, and to simply be present in the process.

That's a big part of why we do what we do, and why we keep moving forward with dry plate photography.

September 8th is getting closer, and we thought it was time to give this day the attention it deserves.

155 years ago, on September 8th, 1871, R. L. Maddox published an article describing his experiments with gelatin-bromide emulsions, an early step towards what would become the dry plate process.

This craft has survived for more than a century, not simply because the process exists, but because people continue to make plates, expose them, develop them, share their images and invite others to discover it too.

In a world that moves faster every day, it's easy for something as slow, tactile and demanding as dry plate photography to get lost in the noise. Perhaps the best way to keep it alive is simply to keep making it visible.

So on September 8th, we're celebrating the process, its history, and the people who are keeping it alive today.

We're preparing something special for Tuesday.
