What an amazing day! I feel so truly honoured to be able to speak about my debut novel, A Change of Pace, at the Brisbane Writers Festival 2026, and share the stage with this incredible group of authors!

I was just a little nervous for my first event like this (absolutely terrified), but I felt truly supported and upheld by my beautiful fellow panelists. Thanks so much to Steve, Sofia, Darcy and Lyla. ❤️🥰

Also a special thank you to our fabulous sponsor, Wild Secrets!! I wish I could have won the prize!! 😍😈😏🤭

Thanks BWF! It was an absolute pleasure! ❤️

‘Like a memory from the future.’

THE ASHES - a novel about transness and madness and the lives we inherit - has found its home at Pan Macmillan (ANZ), Verve (UK) and Dutton / Penguin Random House (North America) and I couldn’t be more grateful. At a time when global institutions, governments and media are insisting on the eradication of trans and gender diverse people from public life and the public imagination, I feel indebted to Stacy Testa, Benython Oldfield, Sharon Galant, Thomasin Chinnery and my incredible publishers for making this global release possible.

I’m very proud of my memoir @hiphopandhymns, and the fact that I wrote it when I was so young. But I also L❤️VE a bit of irony and having a good laugh, so I couldn’t resist posing when I was out for my birthday a couple of weeks ago. 😅 #hiphopandhymns #irony

That feeling when you realise the weekend just gone was the third anniversary of your book 😱 So busy working on new things I didn’t notice 😉 Getting to tell you my story changed my life. So much has happened since… maybe I should add a sequel essay collection to the list?! Seriously, tell me what you think. What are you busting to see from me, if anything?

Thank you for everything always 💛

Okay, this feels real now!

My new book, Good Bones, is out with @hqbooks on February 2nd 😍 It was a joy to write and I can’t wait to share it!

Thank you to @hazellam___ for such a beautiful cover and to the marketing team at HQ for creating this animation (because I could never)❤️ Pre-order links are in my Linktree ❤️

PS To the wonderful readers who helped me brainstorm new titles at the Rachael Johns Book Club Retreat, turns out marketing went for the original title after all!

A special thank you to literary agent, Benython Oldfield, of Zeitgeist Literary Agency for joining us at The Art of Writing Sydney.

Benython @zeitgeistwriters spoke so honestly about the realities of publishing today. His industry advice was wonderful.

The writers related to everything he said. They asked questions, listened closely and came away with a much clearer understanding of what an agent looks for, how publishing works and why persistence matters.

And then he came to the pub with us afterwards. Above and beyond!

Thank you, Benython, @zeitgeistwriters for giving us your time and for being such an important part of a fabulous weekend.

And I really didn't know all that stuff about AI.
