ZERO TO THREE».

Honestly, some days it’s a lot.

Raising two little humans under four, working full-time, trying to be present parents, good husbands, and somehow finding a little time for ourselves in between it all. Most days I’m out the door as the kids are just waking up and walking back in just in time for dinner, baths, and bedtime. And some days, that really gets to me. I wish I had more time with them. I wish I wasn’t always so tired. I wish I could slow it all down just a little.

And then there’s the weight of everything happening in the world.

Being a two-dad family in today’s political climate comes with its own set of worries. Add to the mix another school shooting, families being torn apart—literally separated or a parent killed by ICE, the unimaginable suffering in Gaza, the war in Ukraine that’s been going on for years due to the Russian invasion, and the constant economic and political uncertainty.

It’s heartbreaking.

Sometimes I’ll find myself sitting in the car after work, scrolling through the news, feeling completely overwhelmed and wondering what kind of world Poppy and Duncan are going to grow up in.

And then I come home.

These two are usually climbing all over each other, laughing hysterically, fighting over something ridiculous, or Poppy is squishing Duncan’s face while he thinks it’s the funniest thing in the world.

I can’t really explain it. Their laughter, their little personalities, the way they love each other so fiercely (even when that love gets a little aggressive).

It’s the best part of my day.

Every single day.

They bring me back to myself. They remind me what actually matters when everything else feels so loud. And in a way I never really understood before becoming a dad, they make me feel connected to something bigger than myself. God, spirit, whatever you want to call it. I see it in them. In their innocence, their joy, and the way they love without even thinking about it.

I’ve also been thinking a lot lately about how incredibly fortunate we are.

We have a safe home. Food on our table. Two beautiful, healthy kids who get to fall asleep every night knowing they’re loved.

We have the privilege of building a life together as
