On the eve of the inaugural Berlin design festival Currents, we are pleased to invite you to the opening of NARRATIVES OF MAKING — Contemporary Positions from Art and Collectible Design, marking the beginning of the festival programme.

Presented by MAJ VAN DER LINDEN, the exhibition brings together women working across contemporary art, collectible design, and material-based disciplines. Introducing my new lighting sculptures inspired by my childhood summers in southern Turkey.

The series reimagines the traditional Turkish su kabağı (calabash gourd) lamp, crafted in Turkey’s southern regions using age‑old perforation techniques. Traditionally, the gourds are harvested in autumn, left to dry, and then carefully carved throughout the winter. A seasonal practice deeply tied to both nature and local craft traditions. The collection translates a core memory into clay, creating cultural continuity by reinterpreting a familiar object through a different material. Each lamp is traced by a movement that is entirely intuitive and unique.

Editions of LAMP NO. II will be on view at Narratives of Making at @maj_van_der_linden Gallery, presented as part of @currents.berlin during @berlinartweek.

+ Join me for an artist talk on 12 September at 4 pm, where I’ll be sharing the making process and story behind these pieces.

Opening Event — Sep 9, 6-9pm
Artist Talk — Sep 12, 4-5pm

NARRATIVES OF MAKING — Contemporary Positions from Art and Collectible Design

Presented by MAJ VAN DER LINDEN, the exhibition brings together women working across contemporary art, collectible design, and material-based disciplines. Rather than defining strict categories, it celebrates the diversity of contemporary making and the many ways craftsmanship informs artistic and design practices today.

Each participant presents a distinct body of work shaped by individual materials, methods, and ideas. While some practices are rooted in sculpture or fine art and others in collectible design or functional objects, all share a deep commitment to craftsmanship as an essential part of the creative process. Making becomes a language for expression, research, innovation, and reflection.

Through material, process, and experimentation, the works reveal personal narratives alongside broader social and cultural questions. Together, they challenge conventional distinctions between art, design, and craft while opening new perspectives on contemporary material culture.

Presented in collaboration with Wohnen AM TACHELES and proudly part of the inaugural Berlin design festival Currents.

Opening event September 9, 6-9pm (RSVP link in bio)

I’m happy to share that I’ll be exhibiting at @enterartfair with @neudeutsch.collective , curated by @julian_daynov in collaboration with the German Embassy.

As the only non-German artist invited to present work alongside a new generation of German creatives, this feels especially meaningful. Thank you @julian_daynov

I’ll be presenting a new body of work exploring the body through biomorphic form - where hints of limbs, bellies, and spines emerge through clay. The presentation includes sculptures named Körper and Untitled, both shown publicly for the first time.

Photographed above:
Körper
Ceramic sculpture
