Last year, the @nationalgallery London invited me and Zeynep Sagir of @thecolourclub to record a podcast on the women who contributed to and pushed the boundaries of colour theory and colour history.
I am delighted to announce that this is now released in the National Gallery's fantastic free series #StoriesinColour, available on the usual platforms.
The full link is in my bio, but at the end of this post is a taster clip in which @zeyneppsagir and I talk about the true pioneer Martha Gartside (formerly known as Mary Gartside).

Here are a few images of just some of the extraordinary women mentioned in the podcast. There are many more in the library of colourwomen.

Renklerin büyülü evrenine kapsamlı bir yolculuk…
Zeynep Sağır rehberliğinde gerçekleşecek bu iki günlük atölyede, renk teorisinden psikolojisine, tarihsel gelişiminden kişisel palet oluşturmaya uzanan çok yönlü bir keşif sizi bekliyor.

Renk konusundaki derin bilgisi ve sezgisel yaklaşımıyla Zeynep Sağır, hem akademik hem de yaratıcı üretim alanlarında renk üzerine yaptığı çalışmalarla dikkat çekiyor. Onun rehberliğinde, renkleri yalnızca görsel bir unsur olarak değil; duygu, anlam ve algı boyutlarıyla da deneyimleyeceksiniz.
Katılımcılar, renklerin sanat, tasarım ve kültür üzerindeki etkilerini inceleyecek; teorik anlatımlar, uygulamalı gözlemler ve deneylerle desteklenen bir süreçte kendi renk anlayışlarını derinleştirecekler.

Following the practice of cultivating and experimenting with plants as a source of colour, Jacqui Symons founded Slow Lane Studio to focus on environmentally responsible methods for printing, dyeing and colouring. She established the studio based on her research into plant-based pigments and natural dyeing techniques, and now shares this knowledge through hosting workshops that offer practical advice and make this information more accessible. By exploring slow production that reduces consumption and waste, Jacqui’s work encourages artists to consider and reflect on the materials that they use, and inspires them to create their own from plant-based sources.
