Zhanè Washington is the 2nd of the 2025 MS-2 Members At-Large! She is also a 2024 AMSSM Agostini Grant recipient. Zhanè was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and went to undergrad at Morgan State University on a full-ride for Track & Field as a Long and Triple Jumper. In her two gap-years before medical school, Zhanè worked for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as a federal compliance officer. She is currently in a research year at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill SOM and is interested in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Motivated by her love for all things fitness/sports (weight lifting, bouldering, and F1 to name a few), Zhanè is excited to work with the AMSSM MSIG this year.

Meet Zhanè Washington, BS, our February Medical Student Member of the Month!

Orthopaedics stood out to her as musculoskeletal health is unique because it affects individuals throughout their lives. There are many ways to address orthopaedic issues through a wide range of interventions. With an athletic background, @_zchats is excited about its evolution as new advancements continue to shape the future of orthopaedics.

As a student at the University of North Carolina, she joined AAOS to network and learn through access to newsletters, educational sessions, research articles, and membership highlights.
