A glimpse of my thesis, 𝘎𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴. It brings into relation three historical gardens across India and Switzerland through a transdisciplinary methodology spanning from 1500 to 1800. It narrates stories of Mughal, British, and Swiss garden culture and and their interwoven histories through an autoethnographic account. Mentored by @lydiaxynogala A heartfelt thank you @nitinbathla and @zhdk_transdisciplinary #gardens #botanical #history

SAD BOOK — ZURICH This Thursday, SAD BOOK comes to Kino Toni at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK). A screening of four moving-image works: Chan Sook Choi qbit to adam · 2021 Kimsooja Thread Routes – Chapter I · 2010 Minkyu Hwang PULSE · 2025 Ellie Kyungran Heo The Glorious Lament · 2025 Rather than presenting the works as a single thematic selection, the screening brings four distinct artistic approaches into one space — from geological and human time, to landscape, memory, gesture and personal history. The screening is followed by a research conversation with Zoe Chun, opening onto the wider SAD BOOK project and its next chapter in Seoul this November. The Zurich audience will also be introduced to artists participating in the Seoul project: Ahram Kwon, Florian Dombois and Rhona Byrne. Hosted by the Research Focus Transdisciplinarity at ZHdK. Last week, master students from ZHdK and ZHAW were engaging with the research garden im Grüental as a living laboratory and narrative environment using artistic and scientific sensing methods such as observing, listening, recording, tracing and smelling. Guided by Patrick Müller ZHdK and Monica Ursina Jäger IUNR ZHAW and with inputs by IUNR experts from gardening, soil ecology, biodiversity and wildlife students developed new narratives and aesthetics of coexistence and translated them into concepts, performances, audio installations, collections, songs, images and texts.  Gardens and gardening are among the oldest forms of technology, cultivation, co-creation with more-than-human assemblages. Gardens are not only ecological habitats but also cultural assemblages: they speak of values, histories, and social relations through material practices of design, attentiveness and care. Every gardener’s garden is a story composed through plant choices, maintenance regimes, access and hospitality, spatial composition and curated uses but also co-created by the agency of plants, animals, organic and inorganic matter. In this sense, gardens do far more than “represent the world” as it is often said; they actively produce stories, meanings and publics, making cultural attitudes toward belonging, heritage, labour, and futurity tangible in lived space. Through shared practice, close observation, and immersion in the landscape, we explored how place can shape perception, process, and artistic inquiry. A day of slowing down, connecting, and learning through experience. #ArtisticResearch #Festival #FieldPractice #CreativePractice #ResearchThroughArt

Athene Galiciadis: How might gaps, repetition, layering, and rhythm in my artistic practice be understood as forms of knowledge that emerge where transgenerational experiences of displacement, forced migration, and migration have interrupted language and cultural transmission? #transdisciplinarystudies #athenegaliciadis

I have been working on this series of vessels, which I call Empty Sculptures, since 2012. Recently, I found myself writing about them: "When I first started working on the Empty Sculptures, I thought of them as bodies. Containers of memory, of ancestors and descendants, of everything we take in, and everything we carry forward. Embracing. Recently, my thinking has shifted. For thousands of years, clay vessels have held seeds, protecting futures across fragile seasons. Empty Sculptures move within this lineage. Their repeated forms, their slowly shifting patterns echo what happens when seeds are saved, exchanged, replanted. Year after year, community after community. Through this quiet cycle, seeds adapt, resist, endure. They learn drought, scarcity, change. They remember. The Empty Sculptures hold that same potential: not fullness, but becoming a space where something can survive, and transform." As I am currently developing an exhibition project together with Andrea Sommer (artist and fellow student) @skurrila and Sebastian Utzni (artist, colleague, and Head of the BA Fine Arts programme at HSLU) @sebastian_utzni , Andrea introduced me to Ursula K. Le Guin's The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction. What a revelation. Le Guin proposes that the first cultural tool was perhaps not the spear, but the container. The carrier bag, basket, or vessel used to gather and share. Reading her text, I suddenly encountered the Empty Sculptures from a different angle. I am only beginning to understand where this connection might lead, but it has already opened a new space of thought around the work..
