Yesterday I had the privilege of seeing the closing of “By Any Means Necessary” at @reduxartcenter curated by @keladreams 🖤✊🏾 The participating artists all did a phenomenal job with their artwork and the closing poetry made everything come full circle. Grateful to have been able to show up and support such a powerful demonstration of community and Black artistry. We will continue to tell our stories and be heard by any means necessary. #blackartists #byanymeansnecessary #charlestonart #communityartists #supportblackartists

By Any Means is an exhibition carefully curated to highlight Black creatives not just central to Charleston but those representing across South Carolina. While this show was designed to celebrate liberation through creativity in light of Juneteenth, this show speaks to so much more than that. The artists featured in this exhibition are long-standing dedicated creatives, with much more than their art to share, but meaningful stories that tie them to their work and initiatives. I am so impressed with this group in who they are as well as what they put out into the world. One of the reasons why they were hand-picked for this show. It’s not just about doing a show just to say I did it. Curating is an art form — and I don’t take it lightly. Something about organizing a collective of creations brings me so much joy to see it realized in flow as a cohesive collection of works. One of my missions as a community leader is to be sure I am serving as an advocate, liaison, platform and safe space to create for learning, opportunities and exposure that also moves these creatives into creating more consistently and cultivating meaningful relationships. While this is a big intention, and not all of these get to be revealed in each experience, my hope is to be consistent with seeing more things through that calls for balance. If you didn’t already know, By Any Means was not on the books for 2026, though it revealed itself divinely. While I am not organizing anymore big events this year, the planning throughout the remainder of this year is going into 2027. If you haven’t seen the exhibition yet, please check out By Any Means at Redux @reduxartcenter and Avery @averyresearchcenter. Both exhibitions end on Friday, August 7th. #photodump Over last three weeks, I’ve traveled from my hometown to Omaha and Columbia, SC with Birmingham, AL and Atlanta inbetween. I was nominated for Artist of the Year in the Northeast Louisiana region but didn’t win. Felt good to be celebrated and for member of our group, BCCNL, to win was a win. Stopped in Birmingham, @bhammuseum to checkout their collection, then on to Atlanta to check out Amy Sherald at the High Museum. Very much needed. Dope show. Last, I arrived at 701 CCA on July 1st for a month long residency. In one week, I’ve been all over Columbia, SC and experienced a variety of different things. The city has a very interesting story. I’m still in awe when I look back on the art ExHIBIT for the DELUxE version of BTWN II PLNZ. There was so much connection and vulnerability in the room. Thank you to everyone who pulled me to the side to share how the art resonated with them, and more importantly, why. Our ExPERIENCES are the connective tissue that, when shared, help us all feel a little less alone in the world. Soon I will proudly announce BTWN II PLNZ as SOLD OUT, as there’s only a handful of copies. Thank you all for helping me turn this project into a happy ending. IYKYK. #btwniiplnz #patx

Today’s Juneteenth celebration started @iaamuseum with incredible music performances, food trucks and activities for the kids. The day continued @reduxartcenter with artist talks for the Juneteenth reception for By Any Means show curated by @keladreams. It was a beautiful celebration of Freedom and community.

We are finally here! Our main celebration for the By Any means exhibition is Friday, June 19th from 4:00-7:00pm at Redux Contemporary Art Center — and we are inviting you to join us in celebrating through this experience! This is an official reception for the Juneteenth exhibition, By Any Means: A Black Collective Exhibition featuring 15 local and talented creatives. Our reception will feature Artist Talks from 10 of our featured artists, a curators talk, and an interactive mural that our featured artists cultivated for you to join in on the reflection and conversation. The mural contributions by the community will be transformed into a further creative project and we would love to have you as a part pf this experience! Meet Zion Shakur (@zionshakur), one of our incredibly talented featured artists in the By Any Means group exhibition in celebration of Juneteenth! Zion Shakur is a mixed media artist utilizing graphite and acrylic across his works. This use of media combination is especially incredible not only as the pencil conveys details in his works, but the risk that comes with this particular tool to canvas. His use of natural tones bring a sense of grounding and presence to his work. Zion’s work is focused on telling narratives around research, history, and everyday living. He takes approaches in elevating his work with the transformation of his surfaces by application and removal. We are so grateful and fortunate to have Zion’s work featured in Redux Contemporary Art Center (@reduxartcenter) for this exhibition.
