Meet Zion Shakur (@zionshakur), one of our incredibly talented featured artists in the By Any Means group exhibition in celebration of Juneteenth!

Zion Shakur is a mixed media artist utilizing graphite and acrylic across his works. This use of media combination is especially incredible not only as the pencil conveys details in his works, but the risk that comes with this particular tool to canvas. His use of natural tones bring a sense of grounding and presence to his work.

Zion’s work is focused on telling narratives around research, history, and everyday living. He takes approaches in elevating his work with the transformation of his surfaces by application and removal.

We are so grateful and fortunate to have Zion’s work featured in Redux Contemporary Art Center (@reduxartcenter) for this exhibition.

Our main celebration is Friday, June 19th from 4:00-7:00pm at Redux Contemporary Art Center. Stay tuned for more details of this programmed event.

Reforging The Soul pt.1

If you had asked 10 year old me 17 years ago what kind of person i was, I would have been confident in defining the very dispute of my soul. This past year has broken me done and beaten me in ways I didn't like were possible anymore. Facing a lose of stability, grief, addiction, and isolation (often self-imposed). How the world can change you if you let it. How the world can convince you that what you need exist out there and someone has to give it to you or you have to earn it. by @zionshakur

Reforging The Soul pt.2

There's been some many moments in the last few years that I've let go uncelebrated. So many opportunities that I told myself that I didn't deserve to pursue. While letting every failure take center stage. Ruminating the lose of friends and family. Running from the chance to connect because i know eventaully all things end. The passion I use to feel, the way I connect to the world was like poisoned water. I knew I need the water but couldnt/wouldn't remove the poison. by @zionshakur

Reforging The Soul pt.3

I've been repeatedly forced to face the dark and un-healed parts of myself that I would typically push away. Taking care of that inner child thay has gone ignored for to long. I've been on a journey to reclaim my mind, to love every imperfection, and to reforge the shape of my soul until I recognize it. The journey is just beginning.... how exitcing is that? by @zionshakur
