I’ve spent the last 2 weeks taking some time off, traveling w family and friends. The break felt good, but I did occasionally put on my #virtualstudiocreep cloak, screen-grab other people’s peeks into artists’ studios around the world, and check the depths of my “screenshots” folder. • This photo of @philip_akkerman’s studio could be from any day in the last few decades, which is how long the Dutch painter has used his self-portrait as a conceptual and structural core for exploring painting while also paying tribute to the cosmic game of chance that is life on Earth. Speaking of chance, these pieces might be part of his upcoming show at @longstoryshort.nyc (alongside Erik Parker), but we’ll know more about that soon. It’s always a treat to get a peek at @martyncross’s paint lab (tnx @williamfgustafsson), and I particularly loved the colors on his palette, nicely matching w the new works by @bbest_ffriend (for his upcoming residency project in Europe, which I have a good reason to be excited about). • Speaking of working away, @evahpade recently shared her new London HQ, and @georgerouy showed appreciation for a new mixing table built by @alfie.rouy. I enjoy this quiet moment from @alliztair’s workplace in Berlin, and how it matches this shot from @nastaran_sh_a’s Parisian paint lab ahead of NYC solo w @scroll.nyc. Things are running full steam and across the spectrum at @loriangwynn studio in Amsterdam, where @bobjonkers also painted this 9-panel piece for his upcoming solo w @marian_cramer. • Over in Belgium, @michael.borremans wrapped up new works for his first Paris solo in 20 years w @davidzwirner, and in NYC, @austinleee just finished 2 new sculptures in a group show @falconart_nyc. As for the action shots, we have @nokukhanyalanga working on new pieces to be presented w @barbegallery, @zioziegler taking a paint break from mountainbiking, and @danielcrewschub next to one of the pieces to be presented by @patricialowcontemporary in Venice next week. Finally, here is a great, atmospheric shot of @terry_ekasala’s HQ, and a single work in the studio situation at @cosimo_casoni’s and @emeli_theander’s (extra points for these feet/shoes).

What Do Visual Instincts Mean Anymore? We brought four Stanford d.school professors to our main stage for a fast-paced conversation on how visual language is evolving across type, information design, storytelling, and identity. Patrick Fenton, Saad Raiz, Koh Terai, and Zio Ziegler skipped the traditional Q&A in favor of Office Hours, workshopping audience projects in real time—from early concepts to refined ideas. Presented by @stanforddschool, with a custom poster created for the event.

Last two days to visit ‘Six Trees,’ Zio Ziegler’s third solo exhibition with the gallery, on view at Almine Rech Gstaad until February 1, 2026. @zioziegler • Drawing from a wide range of visual languages— prehistoric and ancient art, classicism, Cubism, Futurism—Ziegler has, over the past decade, been pulling motifs and ideas from all periods of art history with a desire to bridge past and present. But this process is far from a mere intuitive artistic appropriation or a sophisticated form of postmodern anthropophagy. His approach is better described as a kind of eclectic and joyful experimentation with the core building blocks of human culture. In this sense, his work seeks to create something authentically—and even old-fashionedly—human. “I think that ultimately, the only thing that gets passed forward is the things that are necessary,” he says. — Valentina Locatelli, Writer and Curator • Video by Bryson Malone All rights reserved ©️ Zio Ziegler - Courtesy of the Artist and Almine Rech • #ZioZiegler #SixTrees #AlmineRechGstaad #AlmineRech

A sunny Sunday at home, after a while, means coffee next to me and a deep dive into my screenshots folder in search of another selection of #virtualstudiocreep peeks. This time (I almost feel like saying “by popular demand” but that would be a lie), my phone and I are bringing a fresh #papercreep selection of drawings, sketches, works on paper, mostly shared by the artists themselves during their process.... • Kicking off w beautifully intense creations by @beeyonkerz, perhaps hints of what we might see in canvas format at some point. Continuing with this unfortunately always timely sketchbook gem by @alyhelyer, and continuing w a selection of works on paper by @stephenanthonydavids. Next to us is the unmistakable, sticky @natmeade’s paint lair w a cheeky sketch stuck on a wall behind the pile of leftover paint. • Speaking of walls, @jordykerwick is building a cluster w some fresh ideas on paper, and @stech_adam recently posted some shots of his studio drawings and studies. Working w ink, @javierpalaciosdiario recently shared some tabletop wip action, as did @aec_interesnikazki, who’s working under the watchful eye (and paw) of his feline buddy. • After some time, @javicalleja also made some new, vintage-feel drawings over in Costa del Sol, and @monicasubide has been very into her intricate works w ink, pencil, and silk collage on paper over in Costa Brava. When your practice involves mixed media like they do w @_screase_, the studies will look more like blueprints, and the blueprint-like structures tend to get a life of their own in @zioziegler’s work on paper. • Remember NYE?! Well, @waynehorse captured its vibe in his own distinctive style, and I loved this artist portrait by @guillermovelascopaez (look up his profile for the painting version). Finally, here is a shot of @razvanboar’s late night excersize and @rhyslee_ studio floor display of recent works on paper.

‘Six Trees’, Zio Ziegler’s exhibition, opens today at Almine Rech Gstaad! The show will be on view at the gallery through February 1, 2026. @zioziegler • Working across multiple modes of expression, Zio Ziegler develops an organic process in which each body of work grows, simplifies and eventually merges into a broader visual vocabulary. From this ever-expanding universe of symbols, figures and allegories, Ziegler constructs a worldview that challenges conventions, explores biological instincts and experiments with shifting perceptions of space and time. As he explains, “Painting is my attempt at processing and synthesizing the stories and information I’ve become curious about,” a statement that reflects the way his works convert curiosity and lived experience into flat, transmittable images that form the building blocks of an increasingly complex artistic lexicon. • ‘The Four Part Horizon’, 2025 Oil and acrylic on canvas 154.6 x 101.3 x 5.1 cm 61 x 40 x 2 in ‘Perceptual Drift’, 2025 Oil and acrylic on canvas 154.6 x 101.3 x 5.1 cm 61 x 40 x 2 in ‘Signal Tree’, 2025 Oil and acrylic on canvas 154.6 x 101.3 x 5.1 cm 61 x 40 x 2 in Photos by Evan Bedford ©️ Zio Ziegler - Courtesy of the Artist and Almine Rech • #ZioZiegler #SixTrees #AlmineRechGstaad #AlmineRech

Zio Ziegler is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on the fundamental distillation and reconstruction of forms. Working across multiple modes of expression, his process is organic- each body of work grows, simplifies, and eventually integrates into a larger visual vocabulary. @zioziegler • Working primarily in oil paint, Ziegler creates totemic figures and biological forms whose textured surfaces fuse raw pigment with materials such as sand, soil, and pumice. His influences, though constantly evolving, range from early 20th-century abstraction and Italian Futurism to Jackson Pollock’s experiments of the 1940s. Painted in dynamic whorls of color and gesture, Ziegler’s works nevertheless unfold with deliberate slowness. “Painting is my attempt at processing and synthesizing the stories and information I’ve become curious about." — Zio Ziegler • Almine Rech Gstaad is pleased to present Zio Ziegler’s solo exhibition with the gallery, opening in December 2025. • Portrait of Zio Ziegler, 2025 Photo by Spencer Miller ‘Signal Tree’, 2025 Oil and acrylic on canvas 149.9 x 96.5 x 2.5 cm 59 x 38 x 1 in ‘The Last Forest’, 2025 Oil and acrylic on canvas 149.9 x 96.5 x 2.5 cm 59 x 38 x 1 in Photos by Evan Bedford • #ZioZiegler #AlmineRech
