The bond between a mother and child is full of emotion, a mix of deep love, hard lessons, tears, laughter, and lots of healing. (ABSUMO runway & bts short version)Finally put my biggest project yet out and it’s been insane to share myself and my work with the world on this level. This collection has been my baby and my biggest driving force in my craft and even my personal life. I began to work on the concept around the time of the pandemic Nothing made sense at the time, no one knew where the world was heading or if we would ever experience normalcy again and the uncertainty that things would ever get better again is what ate at me the most. We were consumed my fear, panic, grief and even survivors guilt while having to stay indoors for months on end which made it a perfect environment for rumination and other mental dis-orders leading to a lot of overcompensation and consumption to make up for our unmet needs. The theme of overconsumption became a big one during the quarantine people whether it was food,social media, or substances a lot of people ( myself included) were struggling to find any sort of balance in life. So I decided to make meaning of my life with whatever I could and transmute all these heavy feelings into something beautiful that I could use as a kind of symbolism of hope.The collection title “Absumo” is the Latin word for consumption, and I explored it in different processes, organisms and object that consume using rust, fire, fungi and bacteria. It’s a collection with very intricate details and displays the capability of regeneration and the beauty and hope it can bring Sorry this is so long😭
