Tonight. @valtosband open the Commonwealth Games @glasgow_2026

Months of work, secrets and rehearsals come to a head tonight at the OVO Hydro, when Valtos play the Opening Ceremony of Glasgow 2026, broadcast live around the world.

For the opening ceremony our task was simple on paper: welcome the athletes to Scotland but make them feel at home. However, the more we thought about this the more we knew we needed additional help to pull this off. So we recruited some friends to both record and to join us on stage.

This was an incredible experience and we’ve made some friends for life.

The Opening Ceremony walk-in was built with musicians across Scotland and around the world, on stage and on the recording.

On stage: @bigbemz1 @daraplaysharp @shereencutty, alongside @valtosband - @martynmacd @danskye92 @lanapheutan @euanmclaughlin_ @finnmacmusic_.

On the recording: @lil_manu_888 @kimo.nz , recorded in Aotearoa by @bellamy_music_. @gwenmairi singing in Welsh. @zolatec and @obia_sound on the Caribbean section. @talking.tabla.scotland on tabla. And @anotherengine on playback.

Swipe to meet them.

Part two of how the show came together. The full story is on the blog, link in bio.

ZOLATEC
Ultraviolet / Infrared [HL41]

Black 7” lathe-cut
Release date | 07/08/2026

Ayeshah George ( @zolatec ) is a Leicester born, now Manchester based, producer, singer and musician. By day, she works as an in-demand steel pan player. By night she is Zolatec: a contemporary music artist who draws on dub, shoegaze, electronica, breakbeat, metal and more, to forge her own vital sound world.

“An array of instrumentation and arrangements that has one person comparing her to Bjork while another name-checks Slipknot... Spellbinding.’’ – Under The Radar.

‘Breakbeats stutter in dark soundscapes, cut with ethereal vocals, dreamy polyrhythms, and shoegaze textures.’’ – Sounds From The Other City

Zolatec has a keen ability to programme addictive rhythms, then gild them with fascinating textures and striking melodies. Yet her compositions are elevated to a whole other level by her irresistible vocal lines and her sublime steel pan work.

Heaven’s Lathe are proud to be able to release Zolatec’s vinyl debut. A double A-side and a crucial document of a bold and distinctive artist.

Ultraviolet: a bewitching song, that hints at the dreamy soundscapes of The Cocteau Twins, whilst underpinning it with a robust rhythm and languid steel pan work.

Infrared: pulsing with a brooding energy, this deeply psychedelic piece sets Zolatec’s impressive vocals atop an endlessly tumbling drum and bass pattern.

‘‘Zolatec’s rhythmic skills and deft arrangements are primed for the dance floor. Meanwhile, her ear for unexpected details and samples demands deep headphone listening. It’s a rare combination.’’ – Totally Radio

Strictly limited edition of 100 black lathe-cut 7” singles. Comes in a hand numbered 230gsm sleeve. Black inner sleeve with poly protective sleeve. Includes digital download of the full length tracks.

Heaven’s Lathe artists are curated by writer, broadcaster and DJ Graham Duff. All lathe cutting and engineering by Michael Lawrence ( @bladudflies! ). Designed by Lauren Winton (Bladud Flies!).
