Early voting started. For the MCPS at-large school board seat, vote Omar Lazo for Board of Education.

That's Brenda Diaz with Robin Ficker, the Republican running for Congress this year on a promise to stand with Trump "every step of the way." Diaz calls herself independent. Her company and her endorsements say otherwise. The Montgomery County Republican Party endorsed her in 2024 and again this year.

Her own words tell the rest. In a 2022 interview, she said her problem with MCPS history lessons was the "shame and embarrassment" on white students' faces. Her answer was to steer lessons toward white heroes. Black children deserve the full truth about slavery and segregation, not a version softened for someone else's comfort.

She wants more police inside our schools. She has called to "DOGE" MCPS. In a system already cutting hundreds of positions, that means less for ESOL, special education, and the immigrant, Black, and brown students who need support most.

Omar Lazo brings real governance experience: Montgomery College trustee and chair of the county's Workforce Development Board. He's endorsed by our teachers (MCEA), MSEA, SEIU Local 500, CASA in Action, County Executive Marc Elrich and GovernorWesMoore.

Our children deserve safe schools, honest history, and a board that fights for every student.

Vote Omar Lazo. Early voting Oct 22–29 at any Montgomery County early voting center. Election Day is Nov 3.

Young people are already working, organizing, and paying attention. These two young men get it. The question is whether we’re making room for them to help shape the decisions affecting their lives.

At the State of Mid-County Communities Summit, that meant giving them the microphone. Involving young people starts with relationships, an invitation, and a willingness to listen.

We document how Black people die. Where is the urgency around how we live?

At the State of Mid-County Communities Summit, Howard County NAACP President Willie Flowers connected that question to political accountability. Electing Democrats cannot be where our expectations end. We have to organize around what our communities need and demand results from the people we put in office.

What has your community been asking for that still hasn’t happened? Watch the full video, link is in the bio.

No way we will ever normalize the murder of a baby over alleged stolen diapers. What type of society "justifies" this?

Montgomery County has money. These kids have nowhere safe to go.

“Don’t drop me off yet.” Children are asking a trusted adult to keep driving because they don’t want to go home.

At the State of Mid-County Communities Summit, Isabella with Street Outreach Network made it plain: she cannot do this work alone. Where is the investment in the people our children already trust?

Before the drug use, there was a child carrying hunger, isolation, crowded housing, and responsibilities no child should have to carry. How many adults saw the struggle before someone offered a pill?

At The State of Mid-County Communities Summit Nora Morales from Identity, Inc asks us to see the child before we judge the behavior. Her scenario traces a devastating path from unmet needs to addiction, then exclusion from the very places that should provide support.

Montgomery County, where is the urgency while these children are still asking for help? If our response is to push them out once their suffering becomes disruptive, who exactly are we protecting? Dayvon Love, @westbaltimorelove Director of Public Policy, Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle, articulates the position that confronting white supremacy requires Black institutional power.

Seeking recognition of our humanity will not deliver justice. Organizing, controlling our institutions, and investing in Black communities’ capacity to wield power must be the priority.

Who is raising the children while their parents work two or three jobs?

Military veteran and retired Montgomery County fire captain Dave Kennedy, owner of Rec-Mode Fitness brings lived experience to that question. His father died when he was in fifth grade. His mother worked. The streets helped raise him.

At The State of Mid-County Communities Summit, his challenge was clear: officials say they love the work, but where is the funding? Black boys need mentors, and the people showing up for them need resources.

Montgomery County, make your budget a moral document.

Not much has changed. How do I know? Because I work with families like this every single day.

Soon to be Dr. Isabella Wise tells her story of being pushed out of MCPS and how @donchancleta787 saved her life… literally. They are with Montgomery County Street Outreach Network. All I can think about is what if?

Our school district has not kept up with the educational needs of its community. It is still functioning as the Montgomery County of the past. Too many Black and non-native English speaking children cannot read.

Our children are being failed and we should be up in arms that they take our money and do not deliver year after year. #mcps #montgomerycounty #montgomeryvillage #gaithersburg #rockville

What does it mean to be Black in Montgomery County? At the State of Mid-County Communities Summit, we made space for experiences that countywide averages can hide. Listen to what our neighbors shared.

What began as one concerned resident’s objection to gun-shaped cigarette lighters being sold in a neighborhood convenience store has become another example of the power of grassroots organizing, community advocacy, and citizen participation in local government.

On September 23, 2026, the Dayton City Commission passed the Novelty Gun Lighter Prohibition Act, legislation prohibiting the retail sale and public display of novelty lighters designed to resemble actual firearms. The ordinance, scheduled to take effect January 1, 2027, represents a significant victory for community members who raised concerns about the potential dangers these products pose, particularly to children and young people.
