Some pics from the launch of “Mycoglossia” earlier this month! Huge thanks to @chertluedde_books for hosting us, to Joanna Chwilkowska for the photos, and to everyone who lent your (wood)-ears to our reading

🍄🍂🍄🍂🍄🍂🍄

For us, fungi are healers and destroyers, plague and nurture, trippy temptresses and toxic threats – a radically connective system that could represent horror or hope. Between yeast, penicillium, prized truffles, and giant subterranean mushrooms, the fungi of “Mycoglossia" beckon in many tongues: a hyperglossia of hyphae creating a portrait of the animacy of mushrooms, and their relations with human lives and cultures.

It was beautiful to launch “Mycoglossia” (@haverthorn) at the same time as @bet.wera’s public intervention "Sprawa Kobieca”, which is the latest artwork to spring up in @davidhorvitz's roaming gallery space within @chertludde, Porcino (another mushroom kin!) @porcinoberlin. You can still collect free mini posters by Wera from the bookshop if you're in Berlin!

For copies of the publication with the UK, check out @haverthorn and for orders within Germany check out @chertluedde_books

Still blushing about this gorgeous pamphlet, just published by @haverthorn! Our collaborative poetry project 'Mycoglossia' has now bloomed into being🍄

Embodying the many voices of mushrooms, 'Mycoglossia' presents fungi as both healers and destroyers, plague and nurture, horror and hope. Within its pages, the poems sprawl, spreading their "glowing treasures to share / oh so wide and kindly."

(It also glowed blue in the leaf litter when we photographed it, just to prove its otherworldliness...)

Endorsement by Karenjit Sandhu @k_ren_sandhu :
"Fiona Glen and Nina Hanz have created a collection with an almighty conscience, a scientific examination of life under the microscope. The reader looks to the petri-dish, the fungi, the algea but also their own human body."

Endorsement by Aaron Kent @godzillakent :
"'Mycoglossia' is an exploration and poetics into a sense of the understory, and the ways in which it is both inhuman and alive. These poems, like a force of nature, offer something remarkable: a journey into and of the many layers of being."

Huge thanks to all who encouraged us along the way and supported us with the launch. More from the launch at @chertluedde_books coming soon!

Gorgeous cover illustrations by @zsfiv.jkb – thank you Zsófia for being part of this collaboration.

Following the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow, ‘No Arrow of Time’ brought together a group of artists making work in response to and actively engaging with climate and ecological perspectives and issues. The exhibition at Box Hub aimed to extend the discussions and activity taking place in the city.

Running alongside this CAN (Circular Arts Network) set up a resources unit to redistribute used, spare or surplus materials; encouraging the reuse and recycling of materials used for exhibitions; whilst also exchanging labour and skills for the benefit of the local arts community.

The open call set-up brought people and communities together to form a network of individuals: fostering and enabling positive action to challenge climate change in Glasgow’s creative community, the wider Glaswegian community and beyond.

✨🔦‘In Touch’ October Issue - Artist Spotlight 🔦✨

🤲 ZSOFIA JAKAB 🤲

www.zsofiajakab.co.uk
@zsfiv.jkb

Zsofia Jakab is an interdisciplinary artist from Hungary, based in Scotland. Jakab's practice is closely supported by research, primarily working with sculpture, however, their practice tends to be a mixture of different techniques and media, combining printmaking, painting, textiles, and video work as well. Both in her art practice and research, Jakab is drawn to ideas and investigations of liminal states, metamorphoses, and abjection by observing them in the context of Surrealism and Posthumanism. Generally, in her work, Jakab is looking into the state of metamorphoses when something is neither one thing nor another but something in-between. Jakab is particularly interested in exploring the ways human (bodies) relate to different entities, what it means to be human; something that is constantly changing, and where its (uncertain) boundaries are.
