What an amazing gift it is to not only be on the receiving-end of a wedding film, but to also see ourselves reflected so authentically — when we’ve always been so shy about sharing our story with others.

@Zsomethingfilms worked tirelessly to document our 3-day Redwoods adventure, while allowing us the space to just be ourselves. No direction, just observing, letting us do our thing, and capturing who we were. We are eternally grateful to them for this gem. From the color-grading to the song choice, it is so beautifully us. With permission, we incorporated a northern lights timelapse Sean and I captured during our engagement-trip to Iceland — because the lyrics demanded it. ❤️

Special shout-out to @JaniceMoonArtistry for being such a grounding force for me during those two days, and for pampering us with your passion, your presence, and your gift! 🍞 Sitting in a chair for an extended period of time has never felt so relaxing!

Every year, I try to make space for a retreat.

Not because I need another vacation, but because I need the reminder that there’s more to this work than the next wedding, the next edit, or the next deadline.

For the past four years, Roam has given me that space.

This year, five days in Ouray, Colorado meant hiking, rock climbing, filming together, learning from great speakers, sharing meals, and spending time with people who understand what it’s like to build a life and business in the wedding industry.

But more than anything, it gave me a chance to step away and come back refreshed, inspired, and reminded of why I love what I do.

I think every wedding creative needs that from time to time.

Step away. Get around good people. Learn something new. Rest. Reconnect.

Your business needs you to grow, but you do too!

How do you come home from a week like this and go straight back to normal life? @theroamexperience

ROAM was something I don’t think I’ll fully be able to put into words. I spent the week creating in one of the coolest places I’ve ever seen, learning from people I’ve looked up to for years, and meeting a group of insanely talented filmmakers who somehow felt like old friends within just a few days.

It’s crazy to me that I was the youngest person there, because once the week started, that didn’t really matter. We were all just people who genuinely love what we do—sharing ideas, helping each other, and bringing completely different perspectives to the same table. I learned something from every person there, and I hope I was able to give something back too.

Cody—thank you for putting all of this together and creating something so much bigger than a filmmaking retreat. Getting to learn from you and see how you approach your work was worth the trip by itself.

Emma and Boomer—thank you for being so open about everything you’ve learned and for genuinely wanting to help all of us grow. Your presentations were incredible, but getting to know both of you outside of them was even better.

And to everyone else who was there: you guys are seriously some of the coolest and most talented people I’ve ever met. I came home with new ideas, more confidence in what I’m building, and friendships that I know will go far beyond this trip.

Very grateful I got to be part of it.

How do you have a trip like this and go back to normal life?

ROAM was… Restorative. Inspiring. Freeing. And somehow even those words don’t quite cover it.

I know every trip I go on, I always come home with long-lasting memories and lifelong friends. But this one was different.

Maybe it’s because my well-being was making a cry for help. Maybe it’s because I was surrounded by people who are brilliant, talented, and absolutely hilarious. Maybe it’s because nothing clears your head (or your lungs) quite like mountain air. Maybe it’s because of the Rocky Mountain Oysters.

But whatever it was, I’m so incredibly grateful.

Somehow, I left and came back 20 pounds lighter. Not in weight, although the Via Ferrata was a crazy workout. I mean the kind of weight you don’t realize you’re carrying until suddenly you’re not.

And I know exactly why.

What everyone brought to the table on this trip was a reminder of why I do this, why I create, and why I love what I do. I think I needed that reminder more than I realized.

Cody — I’ve given you enough flowers, but here’s one more. I’m so honored to call you a mentor, and even more honored to call you a friend.

Emma and Boomer — your love for what you do, your vulnerability, transparency, and encouragement have changed lives and will continue to change lives.

To everyone else: you guys are so fucking cool. I can’t believe I get to know you all.

And to those who ate the bull testicles… just admit you liked them.

Laura, I’m printing that poem and hanging it on my wall.

There’s not enough I could say without turning this caption into a book, so I think my speech is over.

On our recent trip to Amsterdam in the Netherlands, I decided to try shooting film for the first time ever! I recently acquired a little Pentax 110 film camera and thought it would be super fun to bring along on our travels.

Needless to say, I’m so glad I did! It was super fun to try something totally new and I absolutely LOVE the look of how these images turned out.

I actually shot 2 rolls of film on the trip. A color roll and a black and white roll.

I was so happy to capture a cat on the film camera! I do have more cat photos on my digital camera for my full “cats of Amsterdam” series

The canals were so fun to watch and see all the boats coming and going.

Morning coffee! We always have to stop and find a good coffee shop when we travel to a new place. I think we went here like 3 mornings in a row…

Amsterdam is the city of bicycles. It seemed like everyone had a bicycle and there were always more bicycles then cars around.

I love the colors in this photo!

We also took the train to the nearby city of Harlem for a day. Just as beautiful as Amsterdam but a little smaller and less busy. I would love to spend more time here some day!

Such beautiful and colorful buildings everywhere!

This was also in Harlem. A little “castle”. Anytime we go to Europe I always seek out as many castles as I can find… this was the one of 2 that we visited.

They had all these boats covered in flowers that you could book a ride in.

A market! One of my favorite things to do on any trip we go on is find an open market where everyone has their little booths selling food, antiques, clothing, handmade items, and more! I am always on the hunt for treasures.

This is our hotel we stayed at (and filmed a wedding at). It was once an old church that was renovated into a hotel. Very unique and beautiful!
