Reimagining Birrarung: Design Concepts for 2070 is now open @ngvmelbourne
Looking fifty years into the future, the exhibition presents a series of speculative inquiries addressing the lands and waters of the Birrarung (Yarra River).

Our inquiry considers the future public acquisition of a tract of private agricultural land to establish the Birrarung Bio-zone, a vast ecological reserve and resource spanning 1500 hectares of the upper Birrarung floodplain.

Within the zone, the Birrarung’s seasonal water-flow cycles are reinstated and the removal of agricultural infrastructure accelerates landscape regeneration. Seasonal water flows spread freely across the floodplain and downstream, dispersing native seeds along the catchment, accelerating regeneration. This movement of water helps to restore the river’s resilience, and protects it against the evolving pressures of urbanisation.

Simulations of the river's meander morphology across the floodplain were modelled by @zzsylvester - creator of meanderpy - to demonstrate the dynamics of the rivers movement over time, including the pictured model depicting the river's flow as horizontal axis, time as vertical axis.
***
Public access to core protected sites within the zone is guided by local community caretakers who work in partnership with Traditional Custodians and Local and State Government.

Birrarung Bio-zone guide uniforms allow guides to safely traverse the riparian swamplands and shallow wetlands that form this part of the Birrarung’s landscape.

Programiranje vstopa tudi v vse veje geologije saj omogoča razumevanje geoloških procesov in njihovo predstavitev.
Lep geomorfološki primer so reke in njihovo spreminjanje krajine.
Ste tudi vi navdušeni "geo-programerji"? Delite vaše ideje in projekte z nami #geologijajezakon.

On the top of Bukit Lambir, in Lambir Hills National Park, Sarawak, totally spent and exhausted -- I think this was the most difficult 15 km that I have ever done. ~1200 m elevation change, in 90+ degrees F and 100% humidity.
