@janetjackson, you are an icon not just because of your incredible career but more because of your humanity and your humility. Real icons help others find the icon within themselves. You have done that for me and so many other Black women. I have loved you since I was a little Black girl growing up in Baltimore. What is July 4th to a Black American? Not much. While others celebrate 250 years of “freedom,” we know the hypocrisy and contradictions of a country built with our ancestors’ hands on stolen land. Until further notice…we will be twirling toward our freedom, reparations, justice and equality that has been promised with empty words and performative gestures but never really delivered in actions.We must always remember that our joy is an act of resistance and taking up space is part our resilience. Collectively, we are the solutions we seek. We have BEEN the disrupters who survive and thrive DESPITE every odd. Searching for a savior for the next 250+? It’s US. 💜✊🏾 by @takirrawd

The power of manifestation. This is young me - a Black girl from Baltimore who started a tutoring company for underserved youth to help my community. I ended up winning the Youth Entepreneur of the Year Award from @nfte (Wow! Ya’ll are still making impact years later!!!). My mom and my aunt traveled to NYC with me to accept the award. It was one of the most memorable experiences and a signal to a young me what might be possible. She dreamed it but who would know …we’d be here today — a successful entrepreneur and the founder of @unapologeticcommunications chasing our dreams and catching them all in a net we crafted. Manifest. Vision. Curate. Create. Find your supportive community and let go of those who don’t believe. Write it down. Dream it. Then go BE it. As a proud @barackobama alum and Founding Member of the Obama Foundation, it has been so incredible to be invited to the Obama Presidential Center ahead of its opening this month (June 19 - Juneteenth). I am overwhelmed to witness it all come to life and light our legacy - a symbol that our work was not in vain, a love letter to hope, and a testament to the vision of our administration. May our light continue to shine, inspire and educate the generations to come. What an honor nationally, a massive contribution to the surrounding community in Chicago and the world - OUR history that can never be erased. This feels like home - a safe, liberating place where our dreams go to thrive and our ancestors hopes are revived. Yes, we did - and we will. I love you @barackobama and @michelleobama - words are not enough to truly capture what you mean. Sometimes you just need to be grateful for the journey — and for those who keep inspiring you and making you a better human. As we head into this summer’s Presidential Center opening, I am so proud to be a @barackobama alum and to be back among my family as we carry the torch of dignity, hope and progress forward. Watching incredible supportive women like @valeriebjarrett and @michelleobama helped push me to take the leap to become a founder. And in a full circle moment, I founded my firm because of incredible Black people like @aishabowe - thank you for trusting me to support your journey as you literally take up space, my friend. Today we’re proud to be celebrating 5 years strong & building for beyond. 💜💜💜✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿A message from our founder on our 5th anniversary: “Five years ago today, I turned the ‘Great Resignation’ into an emancipation and we haven’t looked back since. As a Black woman founder, reaching 5 years is not just a milestone, it’s a mark of stability, legacy and purpose. From day one, I have always said that my story is that I didn’t just take a leap of faith, I took a leap and Black women caught me. That couldn’t be more true today as we have doubled down on our blueprint, expanded our efforts and maintained our authenticity and commitment to our squad’s stories that make us all who we are today.
