If you incorporate only one herbal practice into your daily life, let it be this: drinking a nourishing herb infusion every day! Nourishing herbs like nettles, oat straw, dandelion, chickweed, burdock, red clover, cleavers, and red raspberry leaf— are abundant, nutrient-rich wild plants that flood the body with nourishment & vitality 🌿 I had the invitation from my mentor @marysia_miernowska as part of the School of the Sacred Wild to embrace this as a daily practice & it has been a deeply life changing ritual so far 🌿

Nourishing herbs are unparalleled sources of vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. They support gut health, aid digestion, alkalize the body, and help us absorb nutrients more effectively. They nourish the circulatory system, build blood, and tone the heart. Gently detoxifying, these herbs assist the organs of elimination in releasing toxins in a slow and balanced way, supporting deep cellular renewal.

Nourishing herbs are grounding, weaving us into the ancient intelligence of the Earth and reconnecting us with her wild spirit. They quench a deep, unrecognized thirst for the vitality of the wild.

By dedicating time to a single herb, you’ll develop a deep and personal relationship with it. This connection helps you understand how it’s unique healing manifests in your being. After a month, you can explore another. This is the best way to learn about plants!

🌼How to Prepare an Overnight Infusion🌼
~ Add a handful of herbs to jar
~ Fill the jar with hot water, covering the herbs completely.
~ Close the lid tightly and allow the infusion to steep overnight.
~ Strain the infusion in the morning and carry it with you throughout the day.

Zephyr’s first ride around the sun 🌀🌞🌀 and our first year as a family of 3 🤍

I often return to the vivid memory I have of first bringing him to my chest, exploding into the most immense love and relief, and in that moment everything I knew shattered and a whole new world emerged ✨

We wondered who it was growing in my womb all those months, and of course it was him. It feels like he’s been with us forever.

What a profound year it’s been…There is truly nothing more special than witnessing the radical evolution and unfolding of your own child, witnessing the growth in every day.

I’m so proud of my incredible body for traversing the fire of the birth portal to bring our cub earthside one year ago today. And I’m so damn proud of us for making it through this wild first year together with so much love in our hearts amidst all the nappies, meltdowns and sleepless nights.

Here’s to 1 year of Zephyr and forever to go 🤍🌀✨ taken in Mangaroa Valley by @tamsinkaufman

I think one of the antidotes to disconnection in the diaspora is reconnecting to our hands. Reconnecting to crafting with natural elements, to the human skills we not only once needed for our very survival ~ but that are fundamental for connection, belonging, and true understanding of our symbiosis with the living world 💚🌿

The Foundational Herbalism short course is being created with this intention in mind. An online space you can return to, to learn traditional herbal crafting skills that you’ll will have for life ~ empowering you to build your at home apothecary to support yourself & your community.

Hey folks! I’ve been integrating into my new life on the beautiful island of Waiheke, a new season of motherhood with my son at kindy twice a week, and the ups and downs of running my own business amidst the whirlwind of change & general life humanness in the age of rapidly advancing AI etc, etc. Spaciousness always brings inspiration ✨

I’m excited to be back in service in a new and evolved rhythm 🌿

I have some fun new collaborations and offerings emerging, and a few spaces available for naturopathy and postpartum care for the rest of the year. This is 1:1 care & herbal medicine for all stages of womanhood 🌷

AND I have a verrry exciting self paced herbal learning journey coming soon that is years in the making, inspired by own journey of connecting with the plants, experimenting, and ultimately reclaiming the fundamental & deeply rewarding human skills that are the practices of foraging & making medicine.

You can explore all of my offerings at the link in my bio or at www.wildfolk.nz ✨

Snippets of the last week 🌞 one day I went for a solo beach walk and realised I could probably only count on one hand the amount of times I’d been for a nature walk by myself since Zephyr was born.. parenthood really does swallow you whole and sometimes you forget what it feels like to be sovereign being after 2.5 years.. what you do for fun etc 🤣 and now my toddler is *happily* going to the sweetest Waldorf kindy for a few hours twice a week and I suddenly have new chunks of time to myself. So far it sorta feels like I’ve lost a limb during those hours, but oh man am I grateful to have the consistent support for some balance and space to nurture myself and my creativity in new & old ways.

@wildfolkherbal creations, copious cacao & matcha, solo beach walks, and baths under the trees are all warranted in this new season of re-meeting myself 🧜‍♀️ taken in New Zealand by @tamsinkaufman

🫐 IMMUNE-SUPPORT ELDERBERRY SYRUP 🍯 full recipe below ~ save this for when you need it 🍂

An elderberry syrup is a simple and easy recipe you can make for both acute infection and prevention support (if you’re a parent you need this because we all know how easy it is to get sick from your kid 🫠). You can use whatever you have on hand!

Elderberry is the heart of it with its high vitamin C, expectorant + immuno-stimulating properties. I’m also using elderflower for its diaphoretic fever support, astragalus & echinacea for their immune building and anti-inflammatory properties, ginger & cinnamon for their antimicrobial qualities, warmth, & ability to enhance the circulation and absorption of the medicine. Olive leaf, thyme & reishi are other add ins I love!

INGREDIENTS
1 cup dried elderberries
3 tbsp dried elderflower
3 tbsp astragalus root
3 tbsp echinacea root/leaf mix
2 tbsp cinnamon bark or 2 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
5 cups filtered water
1 cup raw honey or more for desired taste/consistency

METHOD
1. Add all herbs to pot of water. Bring to boil and reduce to simmer with lid on for 35-40 minutes.
2. Remove from heat. Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth, pressing to extract all the goodness.
3. Let the liquid cool until just warm, below 40°C, before stirring in the honey. This keeps its living enzymes intact.
4. Bottle up! Keeps in the fridge for 2-3 months, or freeze in small portions for longer.

Take 5-10ml (2.5ml-5ml for little ones) daily through the colder months for prevention, or every 2 hours at the first sign of sickness 🌀

This knowledge continues to exist despite centuries of erasure, because it originates from the innate feminine wisdom that lives in all women 🌀 The wise woman tradition is our guiding philosophy in the Earth Medicine Circle (and all of @wildfolk.nz offerings) because it is my hope all women return to this wisdom, as the deepest medicine for the world 🌿

For most of human history, healing was the Wise Women’s medicine. Long before written language, people relied on direct relationship with plants, passed down orally through generations of women who gathered, prepared, and administered remedies as part of daily life. This was medicine practiced in the home, inseparable from cooking, tending children, birthing, and dying.

Heroic & Scientific traditions arrived with the rise of formal medical philosophy in ancient Europe. Hippocrates and later Galen introduced the idea of humors, a body that could fall out of balance and needed active intervention to correct it. This gave rise to centuries of bloodletting, purging, and other interventions meant to expel what was believed to be causing illness. It also introduced hierarchy into healing, with trained physicians positioned above the folk practitioners who had come before them, often women, whose knowledge was gradually pushed to the margins or persecuted outright.

But it has never been destroyed, and never will be.
