I love the tiny stick! It creates the textures of grasses in the distance and I just don’t seem to be able to get the same marks with a brush.

So many more layers to go on this painting of a wild meadow in the summer.

Time to get the sticks and feathers out 😂🌿 A little bit of calm before I get stuck in creating the tangled undergrowth, wild flowers and plants…

Any one else have a beach hut as a studio? …and live no where near the sea?😂 I had a lovely afternoon working on a couple of new paintings it feels like such a luxury to have the music on, sun streaming through the windows and time to paint. It has been a while since I have been in the studio properly..I spent the summer clearing it out in between exhibitions. I had so much textile and beads along with a spinning wheel and all the tools so it now feels like a proper place to work and escape into. Lula loves joining me and often sits on the sofa.

Keep an eye out for how the paintings turn out!

Did you spot Lula? Studio time after this mornings workshop. It’s a great way to use up the leftover paint. Starting a new painting laying down the base colours and lights and darks.

Next layers to go on tomorrow.

‘How do you create all those layers and textures’ is the most asked question as people lean in to look closer at my paintings during exhibitions…

Over the last year I have learnt that brushes alone are not enough! Using found objects from walks in nature, sticks, feathers, branches and palette knives can make uncontrolled marks that create the different textures and allow the paint to layer up. Happy mistakes are the best. It is just about following my intuition and going with the flow.

My art workshops are full of this sort of experimenting, a great way to loosen up and just let go of any negative beliefs associated with paint brushes and normal drawing tools! ie I can’t draw.. I can’t paint…

A little wander up the iconic Gold Hill in Shaftesbury with Lula.

I couldn’t resist turning this beautiful Dorset street into a colourful painting. (Full version on my website)

Have you ever visited Gold Hill? ..it’s easier to go down than come up 😂 that was the moment I found out how unfit I was!

You can now find my new butterfly cards in @handmadegalleryuk along with the new Langport Vintage Market prints and cards, added to lots of my other artworks. They only open Friday and Saturday at the moment and you usually find Chelsea working on her beautiful pyrography artworks on natural materials. So worth popping in and also visiting the other gorgeous independent shops in Langport, take a stroll along the river and finish in one of the many cafes!

Well worth a visit!

A beautiful view from Westbury White Horse out across the Wiltshire countryside, I could not resist trying to capture it in my sketchbook!

We headed out in the Camper to Westbury White Horse, inspired by the Ancient Landscapes, Modern Times exhibition featuring art works by Eric Ravilious @holburnemuseumbath which Tony and I loved. The chalk downs and rolling hills in the paintings made us want to immediately head to one of our favourite places. After the exhibition we were seeing it in a new light, the way Ravilious captured the lines in the fields and hills, the fences and the chalk paths made us look much closer at the landscape before us.

It was a windy day for sketching, and lovely to see all the hang gliders drifting by. The sky was also a true inspiration…there will be paintings!

Have you ever been so inspired by an artwork you had to visit the landscape in the picture?

Well the time with my new paints in my studio soon disappeared! But how lovely to have the time to play with paint. Watch the sketch turn into a painting of Gunwalloe Beach Cornwall…

I did add a bit of sparkle from another set of water colours that I have had in the studio for ages, great fun!

So happy that ‘Early Summer Meadow’ has found its forever home. Dropping it off on Saturday, I love to see where my paintings end up. It is always a wrench to let a painting go, especially when you have spent months creating it. Waiting for each layer to dry before adding the next, building it up slowly creating textures and the feeling of being lost in the grasses and wild flowers…but I always think the next painting will be the best one. Without letting them go there would be no space to create more.

This is a special one and I am over the moon someone fell in love with it. 🙏🏻🌿✨
