Iterating on the Icarus light. In Greek mythology, Icarus and his father, Daedalus, escaped imprisonment using wings crafted from feathers and wax. Despite his father’s warnings, Icarus flew too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt and his wings to fall apart. He plunged into the sea and drowned, becoming a timeless symbol of ambition, freedom, and the dangers of reaching beyond one’s limits.

The twice turning process is simple. A piece of wood will dry at a rate of 1” per year. However, if you track the weight, the dry climate of Salt Lake City allows for green lumber to dry faster. The best part of watching an expert work is how easy and casual they make it look, when you know how hard it really is. That ease comes from years of making mistakes, learning from them, and making fewer and fewer over time. The natural flow becomes easier through repetition.
