A week has passed and I’m still catching up. The encounters in Milan — deep conversations, sometimes surprisingly intimate ones, that went far beyond the actual products — are still working through me. Book recommendations are arriving.

It’s May 1st. Labour Day.

I can’t remember my last day without work — but that framing has never quite fit. There’s a joy in getting to work on what’s emerging, what might still happen. People who look beyond energize me.

Grateful. And energized.

Between.

My solo practice isn’t old. And yet, looking back at the last year, I’m genuinely moved and thankful by what has already been possible — the projects, the people, the trust extended before anything was proven.

None of it happened alone. None of it ever does.

Between is not a comfortable place. It’s where different worlds meet — different languages, values, expectations, ways of making meaning. I’ve spent my career learning to work there. Not to resolve the tension, but to hold it long enough for something real to emerge.

The best outcomes I’ve been part of started with someone willing to not yet know.

Before.

My university thesis was on international nonverbal communication. I chose the topic because I was already convinced of something: what happens around the words is often more revealing than the words themselves.

The room. The pause before an answer. The way someone’s energy shifts when a certain topic comes up. The thing nobody says, but everyone feels.

I’ve spent years doing studio visits and interviews — sitting with people until the prepared answer runs out and the real one surfaces. Not because I push, but because I wait. And listen. And notice what the setting is telling me that the conversation isn’t.
That attentiveness didn’t start with journalism. It started much earlier. And today, more than ever, I find myself coming back to it — in every interview, every institution, every room where something important is trying to happen.

The most interesting thing about someone’s work is rarely the work itself. It’s the question that won’t let them go.

Two takeaways from Oslo, on a personal level.

The first: most of the art I saw was humanistic. All about people. Their professions, their lives, their emotions, their way of being together. Even Munch, at his most expressive, stays with the human figure. And it’s beautiful at the same time. I’m normally not a big fan of figurative art, but seeing it all over town made me wonder: is Oslo maybe just closer to its people?

The second: sometimes things just fall into place. Wandering through town as an architecture lover, of course through all the new districts. These magnificent car-free places. I felt seen as a human in a city again. Then standing on top of the Opera House, wondering about the programme. Then just going in and feeling it. That was special. No hierarchy. The opera felt open, a place without judgement, the experience unique.

Housewarming: Part 1

A home is made by the warmth of the people who fill it.

Friday felt like that. Time passed without noticing. No one wanted to consume — everyone just wanted to be there.
