We’re celebrating the number of women recognized across the 60th CMA Awards nominations. And we’re also asking why there isn’t a single person of color on the ballot.

The talent is there. Kane Brown just landed at No. 1 on the Mediabase country radio chart with “Woman,” and Shaboozey, The War and Treaty, and Kashus Culpepper have all had standout years of their own.

Progress is worth applauding, but it’s also worth pushing further. Country music claims to have room for everyone, and the nominations should reflect that. Two things can be true at the same time…

I’m honored to share that I’ll be speaking at AMERICANAFEST 2026 as a panelist for “Whose Roots? Expanding the Americana Narrative.”

I’ll be joining Leslie Fram, Amanda Shaw, and Natalie Bailey for a conversation about the many cultures and musical traditions that have shaped Americana music, and how we can help ensure those voices continue to be seen, heard, and celebrated.

Country Jam USA just dropped its 2026 lineup, and we’ve got some thoughts...
Across three days in Eau Claire, the women on the bill are Tyler Reese Tritt, Half Shebang, Erin Kinsey, Annie Bosko, and Tori Darke. Most of those names are on the side stage, and Annie Bosko is the lone woman getting main-stage placement. She also appears to be the only artist of color on the entire lineup. 😬😬😬

We say this as fans, not critics: country’s biggest rooms are being filled by women and artists of color, putting out some of the best music in the genre. Lineups like this one are a chance to reflect that. We’ll be here, keeping an eye on how festivals like Country Jam can build their bills going forward.

Minnesota Country Club Fest dropped their 2026 lineup. 20+ acts, two days, St. Paul. Out of the whole bill: two artists of color (Charley Crockett, Chance Peña), three women led acts (Next of Kin, Jessie Murph, Elizabeth Nichols). That’s it.
Every one of these five earned their spot.
But a lineup this size, this thin on representation, isn’t an accident, it’s a booking choice. The talent’s out there. But will we ever see the stages expand to all the talent out there???
