Announcement on Global Running Day

Why Taper?

“Absorbing your fitness, sharpening your performance and feeling strong for race day”

This is how I want all our runners to feel after sessions. Good and ready to go.

What else to expect from Taper 👇

- Weekly running meet ups.

- 3km beginners run, open to everyone, maybe one to bring a friend if your nervous about starting.

- 5km run for runners who are comfortable completing a 5km in under 30 minutes.

- Monthly sunrise run for the early risers

- Weekend long runs finished with a coffee

- Facebook group with helpful tips, advice and updates on all things Taper.

- Trail running

- Strength for runners PDF available on request

- Monthly distance challenges via Strava group

- Coaching opportunities ( soon )

A new venture and bit of a revamp for me, excited to add to what has already been built up over the last few years and eager to get new faces into the running space 🏃‍♂️

In terms of coaching this is not a typical post to plead for you to come and train with me, I work full time so I’m looking to focus my time on people who really want to lock in. Having previously spent time on the gym floor working with runners/triathletes. I’m going to focus solely on running, this would be remotely done via a training app, I want to put my own experiences and learning into helping others get to the best possible level on race day. Or even if you want to just be race ready throughout the year. I’ll use my knowledge and experience to provide you with a training schedule suitable to you.

Ultimately it is down to you the individual to get the most out of it, by staying consistent and locking in. Your goals don’t happen overnight but if you put the work in they will come sooner than you expect.

Please share and join the Facebook group to keep up to date with meet ups and all that’s going on!

Looking forward to dishing out the kudos 🫡

Hi I’m Lee, On Your Mark's latest Online Running Coach.

I’m new to the coaching game but have a genuine interest and passion to see people improve and enjoy themselves through this sport. I organise a weekly running club in my local town, Montrose (between Dundee and Aberdeen) and love to see how consistency and enjoyment has improved so many of the runners who have joined!

Whether you’re looking to run your first 5km or you are a seasoned runner looking to improve your ability and step up to the next level, I’d love to help you do that.

When I’m not running you’ll find me out in the hills, exploring outdoors and genuinely just living an active lifestyle. Something I hope can filter down to my team!

I am delighted to join such an established team and can't wait to get started helping others 🙌🏼😊 by @taperrunclub

So when do you change things up?

- When the goal changes ( going from a fast 5km block to an ultramarathon block )

- When the volume of running increases/decreases

- When an exercise is constantly giving you grief

- You have an area you’d specifically like to improve strength on.

You shouldn’t be changing exercises every other week just because your bored by @taperrunclub

Things that have taken a back seat since I decided running was my main priority 3-4 years ago.

ERG work and circuits

I used to love going and thrashing myself in a circuits class, at the time, Hyrox was never really a thing, I wonder what would’ve happened if I kept at these style of workouts and combined it with my running… maybe one day 😅 but for now I don’t need added high intensity workouts or there will be little to no recovery time for my running.

I don’t try to maximise my deadlift capacity anymore. Same for Bench and Squat. My training has adapted, while deadlifting is a great exercise, stacking on plates serves me little purpose for my running ambitions. Pretty sketchy footage filmed on a tattie.

Adding extra hobbies.. I do enough, between running and hillwalking. Those are my 2 mainstays. As much as I love trying something different and encourage people to do so, I won’t be expecting a call from Eddie Hearn anytime soon.

I’m not against being a well-rounded athlete or being disciplined in other areas. I simply want running to be my priority because I want to maximize my potential in it, and I don’t believe everyone needs to pursue a hybrid-athlete lifestyle, choose your own path and don’t follow the crowd 👊 by @taperrunclub

This is a day in the life but in a more raw form.

The rigs I go to are more often than not.. shite.

Some days are brutal to get motivated for anything, let alone running.

Anyway…

12 - wake up from night shift, quick snack pre run

12.15 - 1.30 - train

4 - shower and get sorted for shift to start.

5 - breakfast (nightshift) rice, beans and chicken, more bones than chicken right enough.

6pm - 12 hour shift so not much to report apart from lunch which was more rice..

7am - porridge then bed.

Rinse and repeat.

Must admit I’m taking quite bad after having a long time off before this, after being in a great routine, not just in terms of running but all that comes with it, the sleep, strength work, nutrition and juggling everything else I have on in between. Places like this completely throw your routine but I’m just trying to the best I can with what I have, this trip is not forever and I’m not chasing fitness.

I think what made me share this was I got sick of seeing “a day in the life” of people on 5 star oil rigs telling you how much money they earn every month blah blah blah.. fannies wouldn’t last 2 shifts here 😅

I see these trips now as somewhere that really builds my resilience to keep going no matter the circumstances.

And also if you got this far, I tried snails, see last pic 🐌 by @taperrunclub

Was lucky to be home for so long but my time was never wasted..

St Cyrus 10km after a 2 month injury which seemed to disappear at the right time. Sub 40 on that course, proud of that one.

Managed to get a group of runners together on a Sunday morning to enjoy a social run and a coffee after.. 3 times! Next one soon 👀

Gave the Corbetts some attention.. hiked this one and then toured the Dalwhinnie whiskey distillery.

Ran around the Colosseum..

The annual “summer” mega hike. A marathon distance covering 9 Munros.

Joined the team @onyourmarksrunningcoaching as an online running coach, loving every minute of it.

I don’t want a kayak anymore, I need one.

Hosted my first track night, some buzz being in that space, watching others get after it 👏 by @taperrunclub
