Our darling Didi. Oh how our hearts are breaking. To be struck with this evil cruel disease at any age is horrendous but at only 1 year old is just sickening. Just days after celebrating your first birthday to being in hospital undergoing a 12 hour surgery in an attempt to remove as much brain tumour as possible, just doesn’t make any sense. And now preparing for 6 months of intense chemotherapy.
To see such a happy carefree baby be in such pain and discomfort is impossible to put in to words. It’s honestly unimaginable the pain and suffering poor Maddy and Sam are dealing with right now. Constantly battling between anger, confusion, tears and hope. Whilst everyone else gets to wake up and live their lives, Maddy and Sam wake up now with the dread of the battle they have to face each day. My brain is struggling to write the right words, trying to express how much we wish we could all take this pain away from you all.
We are here every step of the way, every leap, every hurdle, every stumble. We will be by your side.
Whilst money can’t take away the pain, it can ease some of the burden.
Please consider donating, no matter how small the contribution, it is all so so helpful. Whilst Maddy and Sam are unable to work due to being by Audrey’s side each day and night, this money will go towards medical treatments for Didi, their travel to and from hospital, the ridiculous parking expenses, general living expenses, ensuring Elliot, their 2.5 year old, keeps as much normality in his life as possible, and all the other expenses that go with having a sick child.
I have the link in my Bio - for those that have donated and sent their love so far, It is all so appreciated 💛💛💛

Very different looking week for us this week.
I had full intention of keeping track of our spend to share with you all but things just got way too hectic. First half of the week consisted of two full days back at work, preparing for a first birthday and packing for our first overseas trip with George then the second half was spent at the airport/on a plane, travelling in a van and figuring out how to survive for two weeks without my normal pantry. I’ll endeavour to keep track a little more this coming week but cannot guarantee. In the meantime, enjoy the chaos of this week and stay tuned for the next two weeks of cooking from a van in New Zealand.

Not the most inspiring menu for our week 😅
Click through to find out exactly what happened.

Monday I had my first full day back at work to get started on my handover so I can come back full time in November. An early start for us all and a lot later day then we expected so we stayed at mum and dads for the night as they live a lot closer to work then we do. We had the whole family over for dinner of steak, salad, onion bhajis and roasted potatoes.

After another day which ended a lot later than planned, we decided to feed George at mum and dads before heading home otherwise the night would’ve been chaos. Dad whipped up one his random dishes with whatever he found in the pantry and fridge. Turned in to some type of chow mein with a satay sauce and noodles. Always tasty but always raises a few eyebrows when you first get handed your bowl.

Wednesday night was another late one for us… seems to be the theme of the week. We opted for a quick and easy pork loin poke bowl. We know we use all the ingredients when we cook this one so there’d be no leftovers sitting in the fridge/needing to be chucked out considering we were leaving the country for 2 weeks, the next day. Peep the full table in the background of stuff we need to pack.

I couldn’t wait to get a photo before smashing down this meal. We’d gotten up bright and early again, to get ourselves packed up and headed to mum and dads again for a lift to the airport. As soon as we got to the airport, we recorded a text our flight had been cancelled. Neither Aaron or mysel by @tarahurl

Some weeks you’re motivated and others you’re not. This week was a not.
I knew on Monday that we’d probably spend more money this week on food. 1. Because I could only think of 4 meals to cook and shop for and 2. Because it was a long weekend here in Melbourne. 3. I didn’t take a photo of all of our groceries so you have to look at me instead. Soz.
We actually only spent $135 on groceries for the week butttttt we also ended up eating ‘out’ twice so our total food spend was $100+ more.
Keep scrolling to see how this week panned out.

As you can see, Monday through Thursday we kept the $ per serve reasonably low but then as expected we blew out over the weekend 😅
Have a read through and if any meals stand out, send me a message for the recipe!

Aaron was at a work trip Monday night so mum came for a sleep over, and after seeing my post from last week she wanted to try the fried chicken burgers and I obviously obliged. Perfect dinner to watch the Brownlow. I made little slider buns for George which made it a lot easier for him to eat than the full size bun last week.
I didn’t get to marinate the chicken as long this time round and I definitely noticed a difference so tip if you make these, marinate the chicken for at least 5 hours if not 24…

After spending Monday night away, Aaron took the opportunity to cook dinner for us. He made this one a little while ago and it sounded odd to start with but ended up being tasty and also, a one pot meal which in my opinion, is always a winner!

Soooooo I felt like ramen but don’t know how I ended up here. However we were pleasantly surprised. George loved this one too and was very simple to make. This was a recipe by @myriadrecipes by Emily Roz and I’d say it’s worth giving it a go. Aaron isn’t usually a fan of the Marry Me Chicken recipes but he loved this one.

Okay so Chow Mein was a suggestion by mum and I always loved it growing up. However the leftovers are still in the fridge for this one. I actually used a recipe for this and it just didn’t hit the spot. After chatting with mum, she said they used to use a chicken noodle soup packet when they’d make it for us but with George being so young, we still avoid excess sod by @tarahurl

I want to preface this series with saying it will not be aesthetic food photos or beautifully curated posts. I usually have a child screaming at me for his dinner and I’m just not great at making things look good. But I genuinely enjoy cooking for my family and I’ve had lots of people let me know they’ve enjoyed my nightly dinner posts and it’s given them inspiration for their own meals. So I thought I’d save a permanent spot on my page for them.
So without further ado!
We started off strong this week keeping our initial food shop under $200 however after a few mid week top up shops (at our local IGA $$$) we ended up spending $267 on groceries this week.
Initially the plan was for this to get us 7 dinners & 7 lunches plus snacks… but it’s my birthday this week so we ended up packing a charcuterie board on Saturday which added $50 to the total 😅
We already had breakfast in our pantry which is usually weetbix or toast.
We also did have a few extra dinner guests to cater for this week so keep scrolling to find out cost per meal and more importantly cost per serve.

#weeklydinners #dinnerinspo #budgetmeals #dairyfree #soyfree d

All of the meals I cook are dairy and soy free. When we first realised George was intolerant I honestly was stuck and thought we’d just wiped out all foods and I was destined to eat steak and salad until I finished breastfeeding but I quickly learned how easy it was to adapt recipes and now I don’t even notice it. If you’re also struggling with intolerances, most of my meals can be made gluten free as well.
Remember to save this post to give you ideas for your next meals!
Keep scrolling to find out more about each meal and what we thought of them.

Monday - beef barbacoa tacos using a recipe from Nagi @recipe_tin
As with majority of my cooking, I’ll glance at a recipe or a few different ones to get an idea of what to use/how to cook then I’ll usually just wing it.
These beef barbacoa tacos were made without chilli so they were family friendly.
I also made my own flour tortillas which honestly make this meal 10x better.
I was a little disappointed at the total serves this meal got us especially after using 1.2kgs of meat, it was very ta by @tarahurl

9 months (plus one week) in 🤍
vs.
9 months (plus one week) out.

Nine months of growing you from my blood and my bones, compared to nine months of nourishing you with my body.

Nine months of carrying another heart inside my body, compared to nine months of carrying my whole heart outside of it.

The first nine months changed my body.
The next nine months changed my soul.

And I’d choose every moment, over and over again.

Spent the afternoon at our favourite winery for oysters and chardonnay 🦪 🍷

Located on Tucks Road in Shoreham, a must visit if you’re down the peninsula. Pack your own picnic and enjoy a bottle at @oceaneightwines

Cheers! 🥂

She’s a long one so listen in 2x 😅
I got a lot of questions about sleep school so I’ve chucked up a reel #cringe about our stay.
I am blown away by how George is sleeping now and how much more relaxed he is heading in to naps and night time. I’d 100% recommend to anyone on the fence about going.
If you have any questions I haven’t answered in the reel, pop them below! #sleepschool #epc by @tarahurl
