The fabric wasn’t a nod to what’s trending in wedding styling right now, it was the answer to a very specific problem.

Take it away and you’re left with a staircase and exposed black beams, the backdrop of this venue. Hard architecture, a couple drawn to romance over industrial edges, and vows that deserved to land somewhere softened and beautiful.

This is the part people miss when they only see the finished photos. The volume of fabric, the height of the drape, the placement and spacing of every floral moment, none of that was decorative. It was decided against the architecture we needed to soften, the way the florals would frame the couple, and the story we wanted their ceremony to tell. Beautiful is the outcome. It was never the brief. That’s the difference between decoration and design.

It’s been a little while since we’ve styled a cocktail reception and this one reminded us exactly why we love them.

The brief was timeless yet modern. Black, white and mocha tones against a raw industrial backdrop. The kind of venue that has incredible bones but needs considered styling to feel truly elevated.

That’s where intentional styling takes over.

We layered velvet, satin and ruffled edge linens to introduce softness and richness against the hard edges of the space. Florals in white with touches of green added life without disrupting the palette. Lush enough to feel abundant, refined enough to stay editorial. Every texture was chosen intentionally to contrast the venue while still feeling like it belonged.

Cocktail receptions are sometimes seen as the more relaxed format and they are, in the best way. But the design process? Just as considered. Just as layered. Just as detail-driven as any sit-down reception we style.
