Can you learn Awa Odori in 30 seconds? 🇯🇵

Relax your knees, open your stance, and follow the rhythm:

One, two. Right, left. Hands and feet together!

Then comes the best part:

“YATTOSA!”
“A, YATTO YATTO!” 👏

Born in Tokushima and danced for over 400 years, Awa Odori isn’t about getting every step perfect. It’s about joining in and having fun.

Save this mini tutorial and try it with us at the next festival!

Why did the chef hold up these two pieces?

They're kama, the collars found just behind a tuna's gills. A whole fish has only two—one on each side.

At Taste of Japan, the cutter introduced by the MC as Samurai Miguel [COLLAB HANDLE TO CONFIRM] separated the collars before breaking the fish into four loins. The head, collars, backbone, and loins were shown one by one before the meat became sashimi.

One fish. Two collars. Four loins.

Which cut would you want to try? by @tasteofjpn

Chiami moves black ink across white.
At the Sip of Japan, gold appears against black. The colors change, but the scale, focus, and full body movement remain unmistakably hers 🖤✨ taken in Torrance Cultural Arts Center by @tasteofjpn

The karate influence is not a coincidence🥋

Eisa is an Okinawan performing art traditionally danced during Obon to honor ancestors.

The choreography performed by Ryukyukoku Matsuri Daiko Los Angeles incorporates forms from Okinawan karate and Ryukyuan dance.

Watch it again. Look at the stances, turns, and strikes.

Did you notice the karate influence the first time you watched? 🥁

Ever wonder why yakitori comes on a stick? 🍢

“Three years to learn skewering.
A lifetime to master grilling.”
That little stick? It’s part of the craft ✨

Awa Odori isn’t a dance you simply watch🏮

With more than 400 years of history, this joyful tradition was born in Tokushima. Once known as Awa Province.

And its famous call says it best:

“The dancers are fools.
The watchers are fools.
If we’re all fools anyway,
you might as well dance.”

So, what would you do? Watch or join in?
