Lau Pele Moana, o oe ua tasi, ua tasi lava.

We only have one Pacific but many chances to defend her name and the lives she holds. An ocean of islands and ecosystems that have thrived for thousands of years are at risk because of climate change and politics that are not in our favor. At home, American Samoa faces the luming threat of deep sea mining, something that will be felt for years to come. Our islands depend on us to use our voices and stand up against this threat. No Deep Sea Mining now or ever!

My dream is to see our oceans heal, our islands thrive and our future generations experience our Pacific the way that I have. A dream I know many of us share. A dream that can only become a reality by standing up for what’s right, no matter the discomfort.

Although a few days have passed, I’m still at a loss for words. The outpouring of love, support and kinship has been so incredible and a dream come true. This pageant was about building myself up to become a better woman, to make connections with new people and to reach and inspire people from all walks of life, especially our Pasefika youth. As a Tamaita’i Sāmoa in Hawaii, I move through this aina, this vā with utmost humility, respect, love and care. I thank God for my village, without them I would not have accomplished the feats that I have and I would not have reached the heights that I have.

“O le Ala i le pule o le Tautua.” The road to leadership is through service; this proverb has been my light through the whirlwind of pageantry but it has helped me solidify my identity and purpose as a tamaita’i Samoa. It has reaffirmed in me that what brings me the utmost fulfillment is being of service to others. I hope to dedicate my work to serving the community that built me up and poured into my cup, I am eternally grateful.

To Tony and Larry and all of the MHV organization, thank you for creating the space for young women like me to build connections with other women and mentors. I’m forever grateful I picked up that shift at Surfing Pig to serve you all, it truly was divine alignment. You all inspire me to keep striving for more, that I can always outdo myself and keep building myself. Thank you for seeing something in me and fostering it. My pageant sisters, you all hold such a special place in my heart; I can’t imagine going through this journey with anyone else. You all kept me grounded and for that, I love you. You’ve made the last four months of my 2024 unforgettable and for that, I am forever grateful.

I set out to be a part of this pageant to learn more about myself and to become a better woman and I did just that and more. The friendships I’ve built, the deeper connection to self that I have and the deeper connection I have to God is more than I could ever ask for. Being your Miss Congeniality is truly an honor and I will forever be at your service. Thank you, Mahalo, Fa’afetai tele lava for all the love, aloha and Alofa. by @tausalajackson
